I think one year did. Possibly the 2010 with nav? Not the 2011 for sure.

yup. It's was easier to burn music to a DVD than the Music Box.

edit: I guess it doesn't play DVD-A discs but you can put MP3s on a DVD and have a 4GB music disc.

DVD-Audio is hight bitrate lossless audio codec. Completely different from MP3s.

If you check the 2010 manual, it states DVD-A as a supported format.

There might be an increase in sound quality, but without 5.1 or better surround, there's no point in spending the $$ on DVD-A. I had true surround with the ML system in my IS350, and it was worthwhile to buy DVD-A for that system. For the Bose...well, not so much.

DVD-A format carries 5 or 6 separate chanels of audio (LF LR RF RR Woofer, Tweeter). I had it in my Acura TL. As 15951 correctly pointed out, if you do not have a decoder and a proeprly wired soround sound stereo system its useless. On the other hand if the car plays video dvds I dont see why it would not play audi dvds.

I can guarantee you there is a huge difference between MP3 and MLP, especially on a car stereo. Don't get me wrong, I understand the weaknesses and strengths of the Bose stereo. I'm a hi-fi guy (i dread calling myself an audiophile). I listen to all types of music on all types of equipment (McIntosh, Krell, Tannoy, B&W, Martin Logan ELS, and the list goes on and on). The Bose in the 2011 G37 can be relatively good given the right type of music and also given that you don't listen to overly bright and boomy speakers at home like most people do now. It tries to be balanced and it can definitely do that.

I'm not biased either as I've always HATED Bose and I still do. I lusted after Lexus after they announced their Mark Levinson line of equipment (and previously with their Nakamichi gear) and even considered Subaru while they equipped their cars with McIntosh gear.

Long story short, the fidelity in the Bose system I can GUARANTEE is good enough to discern almost any lossy compression codec as compared to a DVD-A disc.

BTW, the main advantages that DVD-A has over DVD-Video is its use of a much higher quality audio codec (MLP which is related to TrueHD) that is capable of lossless multichannel high sample rate high bitrate audio recordings. DVD-A is completely different from DVD-Video. Most music DVDs you find at Best Buy and such are actually DVD-Video discs, not DVD-A discs.

DVD-A requires licensing. Considering nobody owns/buys DVD-A discs, there's almost no point in paying that license and the few cents for the additional hardware to decode the MLP.
