2011 Map Update

Has anyone gotten it? Can you please share your experience? How much did you pay?

Side question: Is the navi on infiniti proprietary or is it by navteq or another one of the big guys?

Its by navteq. It depends. If you have a 2009 then all you will need is the navigation disc from navteq. If you have a 2010 then you will need the dealer to install it for you. (Basically Hard drive nav model need dealer, non hard drive nav's dont.

If you go to navigation.com It will tell you after you put in your info about your car.

I think you have your years wrong. The G sedan has had a harddrive based nav since the 2007 model year (the coupe was one year later).

My 2010 actually has an option for map update from DVD.

Based on a letter they sent me I just ordered the 2011 map update on-line for my ‘08 coupe (NAVTEQ - Maps for your Infinti Navigation System). It cost $149 not including the dealer installation cost. They quickly e-mailed the activation code to me which I need to take to the dealer. I’ll try to do it this week and let you know how it turns out.

Sorry I was quoting the convertible. But I was trying to say if you have a hard drive base nav then its dealer only to update. If you go to navteq's website it will tell you ifyou will need to go to the dealer or not. they have it down pat.

As promised, I had my dealer (Miller Infiniti) install the 10-11 map update today. They charged me $125 and it took about 1.5 hours. Everything seems to be OK afterwards, as I immediately checked that my settings are the same as before, including the expanded voice recognition commands (I have an early ’08), all recorded CD’s, and other personal settings. The only negative was they were out of donuts.

$125 that is just insane. All they probably do is plug in a computer and push start then come back an hour later and its done.

Anyone know the process of updating the HDD based nav units? Is there any way we can just download a torrent and install it ourselves somehow. I've found a few torrents that look like they may work.

You need this to plug in to the navi:

Nissan TechMate - Detail: CO-J-48850-A - NAVIGATIONAL REPROGRAM ADAPTER KIT

It comes with the navigation software. But you will need to buy and enter the code before the program will let you upload the navigation software.

You’re right. Putting aside that they took my car right away even though I did not have an appointment, that the work was completed properly and on-time, with free Wi-Fi, coffee and HDTV in the waiting room; and washing the car afterward; they go and spoil it by running out of donuts. It’s an outrage.

Seriously though, on the charging $125 issue I’m no expert, but they told me takes 1.5 hours to access the hard drive and download the update, indicating some dismantling was necessary. I don’t really know how it’s done, but after spending $149 for the access code, I had little choice.

They basically plug in their laptop into the compact flash slot. Type in the coupon code you gave them and let it sit for an hour to upload. So basically you paid for 1.5 hours of labor for the tech to sip coffee and eat donuts. That's why all the donuts were gone. Welcome to the stealership experience.
