Navigation System Question & Comment

How do you change the car Icon for a different one? Similar to TOM TOM or Garmin units? Or can you?

Comment: I hate the fact that the compass on the Navi unit is too small. And, similar to the Weather Alerts, why doesn't my system issue alerts for Traffic on the Route designated and offer re-routes around those traffic / congested roads. I need to go to the Information system, scroll to Traffic Info, scroll to Traffic Nearby or Traffic on Set Route to get the information.

If I'm doing something wrong, Please members, enlighten me. THX

If XM NavTraffic indicates that a route is stopped (flashing red) then it'll offer detours, otherwise you have to manually tell it to give you a detour. As for traffic alerts on those routes, it all depends on what XM NavTraffic's coverage is in that area. I stopped subscriping to it becuase in my area (Toronto, Canada) it only gave traffic for two highways and traffic updates were often hours out of date.

This is the best Nav system I've seen. The 2D & 3D, speed limit for the road, split screen, status of audio and MPG/MTE, pick a restaurant and routes you there. All fantastic. I did not re-up for weather and traffic, as weather is free on our phones and traffic would rarely be of benefit.

cains10, I agree about the Navi is one of the best out there, but current Garmins (not sure about new Tom Toms ) have traffic diversion features. When traffic is detected on your planned route, the Garmin offers immediate re-routes and resets the guidance system for the new directions. It's pretty cool. Saw it in a car used by a Car Service from the airport in NYC. That would have been a great feature to out Navi system. I'm probably going to drop the weather and traffic features too. The weather alerts are annoying every time you start up the car and it doesn't render the traffic alerts in the same manner.

If I still worked in NYC, I'd keep the traffic feature. Here in the middle of the country, they have no idea what a real traffic jam looks like.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

I live in Miami and I have yet to recieve a traffic alert through nav traffic. However when i went on a road trip to Orlando I did recieve some traffic alerts while on the road and the system did offer to reroute me. Could this be an issue with the navi or with xm. Btw I was riding with a co-worker who has a 2010 camry with Nav and i must say, Our touch screen display looks a hell of alot better than theirs.

AND, I'm sure the roads are in much better condition. If you lived in NYC area, and drove here for any length of time, you certainly are familiar with the "BQE" - the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway [excuse the Pun expressway]. They continue to work on this relatively short roadway year after year. I'm driving in the NY area for over 40 years. This road has been under construction in one section or another for that many years. It's a freakin Annuity for the construction workers...... That's New York.
