How do you like the touch screen overlay? Did it reduce the visibility of the screen at all? Did you add a screen protector or anything to it?

You can hook up as many USB devices as you want to a CarPC. If you want a front, a left, a right and a rear camera all you gotta do is hook it up
the touchscreen overlay is great, works well and doesn't appear to have any sensitivity issues. it didn't reduce visibility at all, however, it is tougher to read in direct sunlight because of the glare now. i have not added a protector to it but my intent is to find a good anti-glare protector (maybe for an ipad or whatever) and cut it to fit and apply it since i think this should help. the overlay is 99% clear i'll say so the screen is just as bright and legible as factory.

and i've heard about people adding cameras by USB but i haven't taken the time to read up on how they get them to display automatically in reverse. i'll have to educate myself i guess.

I haven't hooked up the CarPC to my factory LCD yet but I have been running it on an old CRT monitor at 1024x768 at 85hz and it's been working great.

I have been running my Lilliput LCD at 800x480 over HDMI and that works fine too. If I have issues running other resolutions on the factory monitor I'll have to cross that bridge when I come to it.

I did have to make some fine tuning changes to the custom resolution settings in the NVidia control panel for my Lilliput though. I'm not sure where the link went but you can try the settings here:

Has anyone EVER gotten a Lilliput to detect 800x480? - Page 2 - MP3Car.com

If you are getting flickering on your display then it sounds like the refresh rate or some of the other timings are off.
Well the flickering comes in after I install the Nvidia drivers and run the output of my PC to the ScanDo. If I use standard windows drivers through the ScanDo, it shows up fine but now the images are rendered slower on the PC because of the lack of drivers.

The weird thing is that it accepts all the other resolutions from my laptop and my other desktop.

So it sounds like you're not running your PC directly to the stock screen but the Lilliput screen instead? Are you planning to use both screens in your car?

I had thought about using my Lilliput screen at the bottom near the shifter but to get something fiber glassed, they quoted me $1800

That's good to hear since I was worried about the visibility being an issue.

I ended up getting this overlay which already has an anti-glare coating on it:
7.0" 16:9 4-Wire Resistive Touch Screen [ TSR-070-4W-HLD ] by TVI..

So I'm hoping that will fix that issue for me.

Not sure on the reverse thing with the camera's but I know I've seen people set that up. I haven't investigated it very much since it wasn't a big thing for me.

Does it flicker at every resolution you use on it or just some of them? If you haven't tried others see if it is just a specific resolution that is causing it.

I am going to use both monitors and there will be a custom fiberglass surround molded for the monitor in front of the shifter.

Whoever quoted you that price is freakin' crazy. That's a totally insane amount of money. Look around and see if you can find a reputable shop. I went to diymobileaudio.com and searched around there for a bit to find the shop I am currently working with to do my install.

EnfinitI - i'm really curious to see how this one works out for you. i was planning on buying a second overlay to have as a spare in case something happens to the one i have installed. i'll definitely buy this one if the anti-glare coating is good. kinda sucks that the controller is another $30. i wonder if the controller i have would still work on this screen.

i'm going to try heading to best buy this weekend to buy an anti-glare sheet of material. we'll see what happens.

Enfiniti- The problem is that the ScanDo only accepts a certain resolution. I think 640x480 ~ 1024x1280. Anything higher than that and it flickers. Input to your scando isn't having any issues with your video card? Maybe it just might be my board then. So your doing the ScanDo to the OEM screen and your HDMI out to the lilliput?

BTW have you guys checked out the capacitive overlay from 3M? That's the one I ended up with and when laid in place of the OEM plastic piece, it has less glare than the OEM plastic.

I wasn't too upset paying the 30$ for the USB controller since it didn't require any soldering unlike the others I saw out there. It came with all of the cables and connectors ready to go.

Why are you trying to send a resolution higher than that to the ScanDo in the first place? The LCDs native resolution is waaaay under that.

Yea I am using the VGA in for the ScanDO and HDMI to the Lilliput.

I investigated the 3M screens quite a bit before getting the screen I did and I could not for the life of me find a screen that was 7" Widescreen. It was always quite a bit larger 8", a lot smaller or was 4:3 instead of 16:9.

Great information guys. I am contemplating doing this mod for my non-nav screen. I think the major decision I have to make is whether to go Remmy's route and use the composite in (RCA video), or to go Enfiniti's route and use a VGA signal via ScanDo.

Enfiniti - thanks for the link to the touchscreen overlay. From your post, are you saying you can completely replace the factory plastic with this piece? Or does it lay on top of it?
Remmy - do you have the SKU for the touchscreen overlay you bought from dealextreme?
