08' G37 and Ipod Touch 1st Gen.

I apologize if this has been asked or posted before, but my issue is this: 08' G37 coupe using a 32GB Ipod touch 1st generation with the OEM Ipod cable that came with the car. All Ipod music functions work but if I want to select another artist (while listening to another) I have to change sources first (meaning swap over to XM, cd, tuner, or music box) before I am able to actually enter and listen to another artist. It's always done this since new and it's really a pain in the ***. Is this another weird interface issue with no resolution? Has anyone else experienced the same issue? Would a newer Ipod resolve this issue? All thoughts and ideas welcomed. Thanks.

Okay, say your song is playing and you are on the status screen or viewing a map or something.

What happens if you press the Disc/Aux Button once (should take you to the "now playing" screen without changing sources) and then press menu on that screen and navigate the menu via the back button?

This has worked with my iPod classic and iPhone 3G. I think it should be the same with your iPod as well. Although I have a 2009 G with prem/nav so not sure if it's exactly the same as yours.
