Help For those who have taken apart the headunit trim...
For those who have taken apart the headunit trim...
Before I start removing pieces on my G, I would like to know if my attempted project will even work.
My question is, for those who have taken apart the headunit trim and seen the bare OEM screen, does it appear that the glass over the OEM screen can be removed and replaced with a new touchscreen? (I do not have NAVI on my G)
If not, does the gap between the OEM glass of the screen and the trim appear to have enough of a gap to fit a 3.18mm thick screen overlay?
TIA for any help guys.

I have taken mine apart and it is one piece. No overlays or anything.
The trim is directly contacting the screen. According to the service manual the screen is screwed in with 4 screws mounted to the sides of the screen. So you should have an easy time enlarging the mounting holes and sliding the screen back. But I am unsure on the amount of space between the screen and mounting bracket.

Thanks for the reply Doug
don't think you can push the screen back anymore than it is. is your overlay gonna be wider than the screen itself? i've taken it apart and there's really no play in there as far as pushing the screen in more.
The overlay should be the same diagonal diameter as the OEM screen but it's about 3.17mm thick which is about ~.124 inches. I just need to make enough room to squeeze the overlay on top of the OEM screen and place the trim back over without putting excess stress on the overlay or screen.
I don't know the amount of space behind the screen. The ability to adjust it is there but you will have to see if there is enough space to move it. 3mm is small so it might work, but you will have to verify.
Thanks guys. Another quick questions, when you removed the stock shift ****, did you really need another wrench to hold the shift **** itself or can you just wrench the shaft and unscrew the shift **** by hand?

Yes, you'll have to lift up your shift boot and find some kind of rubber hose, cut it in middle so you can slide it into the shaft so then you can use your vice grip for a nice and secure grip. Also it protects your shaft from getting beat up by the metal teeth from the vice grip. After that's done you gonna have to use some force to turn the shift **** while holding on to the vice grip. I recommending having a friend to help you out cuz the last thing you want is a twisted shaft and perhaps transmission damage.
I took mines off with a belt oil filter remover believe it or not lol. Man power just wasn't enough.
Tools needed:
Vice grip
Some tape to protect your console

Thanks Wei. The oil filter belt was used on the shift **** itself? Hah why does it sound like a huge amount of force is needed to remove the shift ****.
Guess I'm not playing with a Acura Integra shift **** anymore

Hahahahha, yeah! It's very tough to remove it. They put a lot of loctite stuff on there so that's why a lot of force is needed. Just be sure to hold and twist vice versa.
