My G has fried two I-pods

I have had two 160 gig Ipods die while docked in my 08' G

Both worked just prior to being docked, but wouldn't appear on the cars screen after the car was started and subsequently would not turn on after being disconnecting from the car

The first one was over 2 years old so I had assumed it just died however the second was a brand new replacement

I may have a short of some kind as often while driving I would get an "I-pod disconnected" and lose my connection, but it generally comes back after a second or two

Are there any TSBs on the I-pod dock cable?

I suppose next oil change I could have the dealer look at it but I hate to think of them pulling the dash board apart to check it

Anything sound familiar or any ideas?

Yeah, actually, I'm experiencing the same problem. I thought it was just me. I have a iTouch and had it for about two years. Now since connecting it to my G, it's been resetting all over the place, refusing the play songs, etc. I wish Infiniti would release an update to fix this or Apple.

My fix was to trade in for the 2010 with the USB port. Works like a charm with my iTouch.....

with the 08 I am using an adapter that connects and charges the ipod to the G's port. have had no problems with ipod at all, but maybe the charger connector is acting as a firewall or something

Are you experiencing the "I-pod Not Connected" symptom as well?

Interesting that it happens on the touch as well

Both my victims were 160 gig "Classics" - The local Crapple store replaced the second one, (which was only about a month old), with a new one no problem, albeit a refurb

I'm afraid to dock it in the car now, I have 60 gig Photo which is about 5 years old that will be used exclusively in the car going forward

I have the 2010 with the USB port. It's still a problem for me. Maybe it's just my bad iTouch but it started acting funny ever since I started leaving it plugged up to the car.

I have a 2008 G37 with the iPod connector but never had any problems with my iPod. i've been using the same "classic" iPod with a 30gb hard drive since I got my car. I would ask your dealer's service dept. If enough people complain about it, they might make it a TSB if there isn't one already.

Crap I think I fired my friends iPod. Ever since we hooked his up on a road trip it is not working for him. I have an 08 with the cable connection but did not have any issues with it disconnecting.

I picked up a 160GB classic off Craig's List (NIB...dude was a bit shady but w/e) just for the car...so far it works great.

Have you been taking it in and out of the car? I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

I plan on leaving mine in the arm rest until I need to load songs on it. As it is now I dumped 80GB on and I'm good for now.

Is your ipod in good padded case? They don't like bumpy roads since hard drives inside are flimsy. Mine 3 years old 80G works just great inside padded leather case and mine 09/G37x. I would suggest to get iPod's from Costco since 90 days return policy also bit cheaper.

hmmmm... my 6 month old iPod Classic died two weeks after I purchased my G. Apple replaced with no questions, but it makes me wonder now.

All my I-pods have been in leather cases since day one - kid gloves all the way

My original 60 gig "Photo" model looks as new as the day I opened it 5 years or so ago

I had that one docked yesterday and had the "Ipod Disconnected" issue for much of the ride and one thing dawned on me - it was over 100 degrees yesterday and the issue does seem more prevalent in hot weather

Very possibly a coincidence but on the way home it was back in the high 70's and I didn't have the issue

Still not docking the new 160 classic till this gets figured out

I've got my old 30 iPod video docked in my car since I bought the G. No problems yet. And it gets well over 100 degrees inside the cabin in So Cal.
