I have a 3rd generation iPod that I used to plug into my car all the time. Never had an issue. Nowadays, I only plug in my iPhone 3G, but I don't do it too often. Still no problems. I do get intermittent connection problems though, but usually a snug push before putting it into my cupholder makes it go away.
