So in your opinions, something like the 8500 actually works -- if not 100% of the time, at least enough to be worth it?

Yes, the 8500 works almost all of the time. I even recently talked to one of the company reps and was told there is almost no difference in the technology police are using today as opposed to 5 years ago. For like $70 you can also upgrade older models as well.

No installation is required but I hard wired mine so the wire comes out at the top of the windshield. It looks good with no wire coming from the cigarette lighter and it is hard to see from the outside. You can also go from the rear view mirror which works good, too as others have mentioned.

I have both the 9500i and V1 and haved used them side by side a couple of times.. I like my Escort a little more than my V1. I belive it picks up a little quicker and shuts the hell up faster..Also no where as many flase alarms.

The directional indicators, IMO, are one of the major reasons the V1 is so effective. I've had mine for over 10 years and it's been invaluable at detecting traps well in advance and know which direction they're coming from. Many times there's a smokey about a 1/4 mile behind driving in the same direction.

True, it's a shame Escorts don't have this feature, alas your left with the logic of going with the advantages of the many features, versus the advantage of the few or in this case the one feature. Live long and don't let the cities camera systems prosper.

I'm looking for the best radar without the windshield mount since I live in the great state of Virginia. I obviously can't have a radar on my windshield...

Any ideas?

Escort 9500ci although if you do get pulled over the laser shifters may give it away.

Does any one have a guide on how to tap into the rear view mirror power? Where can I buy these special cords? Please PM me with the answer if you know where I can learn to do those

Thanks

With the 9500ci, You greatly drop your chances of being pulled over.

Most detecters will pick up laser,But wthout "shifting" its already too late.

I do not use my system to break the law, But mainly as a tool to keep me out of trouble!

My disply panel is mounted to a piece of aluminum plate that I custom cut and bent and then tucked in at the base of the left "A" pilar between the dash and the pilar.

The control panel is attached to the brushed trim panel of the left side of the wheel about knee high.

Neither can be seen from standing out side of the car unless you put your head in the window.

sounds really good- but i dont know how to do that! do you have a pic by any chance? do you think the installers would know how to hook it up nice like that?
and lastly, how is the ci?? i dont know if its worth it to spend the money on it over the ix - and was concerned with the instillation, but you seem to have figured that out...
thanks a lot

Yeah, I knew the picture question was coming and I will try to get one posted. It is a very slick system when well installed.

Is it worth it? Hmmmm? Well, Lets just say I think so!
