Ok, short story is that in mid 2008, I bought a G37S with all the fixins and the voice control was what was noted as the more advanced version where you could dictate the temperature and the navigation prompting was FAR less irritating than the dumbed down version.

In December of 2008, it was totalled. As soon as the insurance money paid off the load and I went and bought another(2008) that day. Same options, etc.

Except this one has a really ****ty voice activation and the prompting for navigation is rubbish.

Question: Will updating to the 8.2 Navteq software update the voice controls as well? Or is that the actually QNX OS that's on the damn thing that is somehow out of date? Would this fall under warranty? Should I bother my dealer with it?

The only way to get all the commands is to change out the AV Control unit for an original one. At this moment in time it would be very hard to find one. You would have to find a car with it installed. NO replacements will be what you want. And updating will not do what you want.

 

Why on earth would they have done such a thing? So the early 2008's had the good and complex software and the later model gets the rubbish that I'm driving around with?

Is there a hardware difference? I should have yanked the hdd out of my totaled G37 when I had the chance.

 

ya i feel your pain. Had an 08 with the full comands and then crashed it. the 09 voice comands suck.
