Where to install radar ???

I just purchased an Escort Passport SRX.

Where is a good place to install the head-unit of this device? I'm thinking of taking out the area just above the foldout tray where the cigarette lighter is installed.

Any thought are appreciated.

Thank you!

Bell STI Driver. Unit is just to the left of the interior light/sunglass holder. From the outside its hidden by the tint strip on the windshield and is only slightly visible by the passenger and is in good view by the driver.

Here is the controller, changes the volume and silences the unit when it gets a radar hit.

I just mounted mine with the suction cups, keep it nice and tight up against the headliner. I would like to mount it upside down but dont want to hack up the headliner of my lease. The display can be inverted if its mounted upside down, great radar detector!

I mounted the display in front of the gauge cluster, it sits well on there and doesn't obstruct anything. It looks pretty clean. I also mounted the external speaker under the steering column, sounds good down there. Just make sure if you mount them there, that the wiring doesn't conflict with the motion of the steering wheel when it moves up and down.

Hope that helps.

Thanks very much for the photo. I just realized in my state of Oklahoma that radar detectors that have a laser jammer feature are illegal. I found the state statute, but am trying to determine whether it is a non-criminal traffic infraction or a misdemeanor. I could install the SRX w/o the laser jammer, but then I would simply have an SR7, which is fine. Depending on the penalty will determine which way I go.

Again, I like the placements you provided.

Cheers,

~V

Superfly: Thanks for the suggestions. I, too, was thinking about putting it there. Have you had any experiences with cops giving you a hard time when/if they've noticed the unit?

Also, how do you like it? Performs well?

Thanks again,

~V

They never have seemed to notice. It blends in pretty well. You can always switch the display off quickly since it is right there.

I've had this unit for about 4 years now. I had it on my STI and I love it to death! It has definately saved me a few times. I just recently installed it in my G a few weeks ago. It was a PITA, but the end product came out nice.

my first choice would be get whoever installs it to flush mount it on the drivers side right about your knee in the console. have them also fab an access door that is retractable.

2nd choice undeath the console drivers side, where you can still access the buttons.

you know they are about to refresh thier models so stuff should be on sale very soon.

guys this isnt a typical detector, its a rectangle thin box with a brain for the detector that mounts in the grill and laser mounts for the Zr4 . Mikes mount wont work, this is a custom install job.

I think you were one of my first customers from the Nissan camp some time ago, weren't you?!

Thanks again for the Invisicord purchase!
