my dream would be to put my Boston G5 12" back there. like thats gonna fit.
either set up looks like about $1000 bucks, what do you guys think will sound best. im in the Lodi/Sacramento area of Cali.

I would love to but I work weekends, My wife works in elk Grove so I am up that way allot. I am looking for the best sound for the price. I want it to sound clean. I have a JL 500-1. Are you happy with your set up?

Honestly, I just don't see the free-air setup outdoing the 10W6 overall.
A 10W6 with a good amp absoloutely rocks. Free-air setups never seem to do what they claim. I find they never have a solid punch. I suppose you could get some additional boom out of them, but I don't think it would be worth the lack of sound quality.

I just got a 4080 with JL Audio 10W6v2/500/1v2 installed today and in short it's mind altering. First I'd like to thank all the posters on this subject, it made for an easy selection and configuration. I seriously can't imagine a need for more base considering I can't set this at the full volume level without feeling pain as if a jack hammers impacting my head or depending on the song, experiencing a tingling sensation in my temples. More often then not I'm tuned just about to it's lowest setting on the remote. I'm an old fart raised on 80's rock and regularly play at full volume so I'm well versed in blasting music. I even re-gain my MP3's to squeeze as much volume out of the stock stereo as possible. If you need more then this you're a war veteran or trying to base an arena. Even cranked I'm amazed how well the G can contain sound... a virtual cone of silence.
Kudo's to Chad at Freeman Audio/Video in Charlotte for squeezing me in and doing a great job with the install. The amps mounted low so you can't even see wires and the blank required some grinding to fit in the remote but came out like factory.

Amen to that. It's fitting the remote sits between the seat heater switches.. since it now controls the new feature of seat vibration, quite therapeutic on long drives.

thats the info I was looking for. I will sell my Boston G5 12" and buy the 4080 and W6, I already have that amp. and you still have the whole trunk left.
thanks Red.

The problem is mounting it in the car in an affordable stealthy way that gives you the most trunk space and ability to drop your seat. Just short of having a custom enclosure made, the 4080 is currently the only option available and will only accommodate a 10".

It looks great. This setup is more practical, considering the amount of space it occupied.
Big consideration on my part also is the weight of the enclosure and the sub itself. I don't want it to affect the handling of the car too much.
Where did you purchase the enclosure please? Thanks.
