Components Question

I'm wanting to replace everything in my G37 Sedan but the Source. Has anyone replaced the factor tweeters? If so, was it hard to find something to fit? I would really like to get a 3-way component set but I'm afraid most of the tweeters out there are too large. If so, I'm considering not using the factory tweeter location and just getting a 2-way set and use the 2 locations in the door...should be plenty of room in each of those.

Your biggest obstacle will not be the tweeters, but rather the 10" midbass, and then the midrange. Since the bose uses a shallow mount driver with a neodyminum front mounted magnet, almost NO aftermarket speakers fit without cutting a hole in the door.

The only ones i can say for sure will fit are the Illusion Audio (no longer made) and Hertz Space series. Even if they DO fit however, you won't get prober midbass from them as there is a limited amount of space to the rear which doesn't really make use of the interior of the door. So instead of a nice infinite baffle mount you are really running them almost sealed in a space that is choking the **** out of them.

This, once again, makes the only good solution to cut a hole behind the mounting location

The next issue will be the midrange. Again, since it is a neo magnet, and 3 inch, i would not imagine many of the 3 way sets being able to fit within these space constraints without modifications...considering most of the 3 ways you see have 4 inch cone midranges. Some exceptions to this would be the Dynaudio Esotars, DLS Iridium, and Morel Elate, which all use 3" or smaller dome mids

bump...

Anyone successfully install Components in the front door yet? I would like to do this but would like to know ahead of time if its not going to work. A quick look on crutchfield showed the infinity reference components have a 2" mounting depth. If you add 1/4" for a custom mdf bezel its slightly less than 2" which is not very deep. Just want to get some confirmation that this will work. I'm sure someone out there tried it.

Thanks,

Mike

Depending on your budget, look into the Space series by Hertz

I believe the model number is K8 or something. Hard to find online but i have heard some great things about them and they should fit into the existing locations as a 2 way setup

Or, if you are looking to spend a little less, try to find some of the older Illusion Audio 6.5" midbasses. They were thin as hell, sound good, and get loud. Additionally they pop up on a fairly regular basis and are usually well under 100/pr now. Those teamed up with a set of Seas neo's would make a killer setup for under 200 dollars, all you need is a 4 channel amp with flexible crossovers, or an external x-over

EDIT: i just realized i already posted this. lol
