It's not a firmware upgrade. Here is a cut and paste from another forum. This matches what Escort told me they were going to do when I had my 8500.

The problem itself is as old as the electronic world: lousy power filtering. Escort uses cheap capacitors that tend to degrade over time. The problem is accelerated because radar detectors are exposed to direct sunlight and high temperatures. Cheap electrolytic capacitors just dry out and cannot effectively filter the noise on the power line. The noise reaches the laser sensor module, it gets amplified and triggers alerts.

Fixing is relatively easy: open the device, unsolder the cover shield that screens the laser detector circuit, and replace the faulty capacitor. You can use anything that matches or, even better, exceeds the capacitance of the faulty capacitor.

When I called Escort regarding problems with falsing in my Acura they told me that they actually wrap the interior in shielding (foil) which reduces the sensitivity... I said no thanks! If I wanted lower sensitivity I would have bought a Bell and saved a couple of hundred

straight from passport 1-800-964-3138

When calling the main number I asked to be connected to technical support, this is the answer they gave me.

"we are aware of this issue with false positives comming from ICC on the 9500ix, at this time there is NO FIX for this issue."

will there be a fix? (me asking)

None is planned that I know of (tech support)

whats the purpose of RMA then on existing units? (me)

I dont know (tech support)

Well.....3 calls.....3 different answers. Who knows. Probably a case of multiple problems causing the same symptom.

Interesting I'll need to inquire if the added shielding does reduce detection range... if that's the case then bummer, laser off. I'm not convinced it's the actual ICC laser setting this off.. I think it's RF from all the tech in the G37 and sheilding would help, let's hope it doesn't effect detection range. We'll see how many different answers I get from tech support..lol.

okay,

I just got back from my local best buy, new 9500ix in hand.

on the way home, I used the crap out of my ICC and preview braking. I had both the solo2 and 9500ix on. Not 1 false from either unit. I drove about 10 miles testing.

There is a firmware update to version 1.1 on the 9500ix that does
About 9500ix Software Update Version 1.1
1. Improved the marked location feature when other radar signals are present.
2. K-band and SWS are not independant selectable bands.
3. Removed 255 KMH limitation.

I am in the process of checking my version and will keep you posted, also the new DB came out for november for the RLC.

unable to determine firmware before upgrading to 1.1

I had no false signals when using ICC and my solo2 or 9500ix

havent tested again since update, its raining.

Wow, It sounds like you guys are having a lot of problems! I guess I should consider myself lucky in that mine don't seem to be as bad with the 9500ci. Or should I say, At least I can live with them.

I actually don't have much of a problem... perhaps because I don't have the ICC, but I do notice that proximity to certain areas in the dash causes a problem. For example, when I park I always take the unit off the dash... (to hide in the glove box) and if it is still plugged in the laser always goes off when I bring the unit down into the gearshift area.

Personally I don't buy the leaking / old electrolytic capacitor theory. These are new units, and even in hostile environments electrolytics have a life of many years. My training is in radio frequency propagation and my guess is stray radiation from components like the ECU are getting to the very sensitive 9500. Computers give of a hell of a lot of stray radiation...

Yea, it depends on where you have it, when I had it up in the visor..no problems at all. I did upgrade to 1.1 btw with the OCT database update as well. Acording to the tech I talked to and as someone said eariler they just improve the shielding.. not cap replacment.

now the big question is how come this affect some units and not others.

Differences in build quality of the Escort... individual differences in the radiation level in different G37... and gremlins

They cap replacement was for the 8500 units, and that was what the Escort tech told me they would do. Since those are several years old now (and mine didn't do it for the first 2-3 years), that makes sense. However on the newer units, I agree that's more then likely not the issue.

And for the record, I've had no issues at all with my 9500.

drove to work today for the first time since buying the 9500ix, it alerted me to the red light cameras which is nice, gps signal takes a couple minites to aquire i noticed. that also maybe because where i have it mounted.

when updating the database using the software , correct me if I am wrong on the procedure.

use the merge function on the main screen and point to the new DB file?

just wanted to be sure i was doing it correctly. I am pretty sure this file can be shared and is not unique to each SN on each unit. I am willing to send my DB file to someone if they want to try loading it on theirs.
