So I'm still looking for someone to give insight on the 9500ix... Will the detector lock out entire locations to laser if it pics up a false from my car? Leaving me susceptible to a real hit?

Thanks,
Much love

I can't say 100% since I don't have the manual with me right now, but I believe that the TrueLock filter does not apply to laser signals. It only filters out radar signals.

So if you have the tech package do you automatically have preview braking?

Oh, and my vote goes with the 9500. I would get laser false alarms in my Acura, but it is totally quiet in the G37.

Yes, with Tech package you have preview braking. Also ICC WILL set off the 9500ix's Laser detector... CONSTANTLY. Initially before I got Mikes mount I mounted my detector high in the visor tint area, which they actually warn against in the manual stating it will cut down laser detection. After installing the detector on mikes mount which moves it under the rear view mirror.. It went off constantly so much so I thought it was broken since I couldn't even turn the thing off. I had to turn laser detection off. Granted Lasers not important, but I do want to know when I've been nabbed so I'll be sending mine in for the fix... hope it works.

Wow... for the first time ever I am glad that I do not have an option... sounds like ICC is more trouble than it is worth.

Thanks for the info on the details of the tech package... I didn't realize that I had the preview braking.

Laser detection is great on the 9500... and has saved my but on a couple of occasions. In our area they use it a lot.

My unit does not blow false laser hits constantly, Just every now and then,And especially when following to close behind other vehicles in heavy traffic. For the most part it is pretty quiet. When it does blow false I just hit the mute button and it shuts right up. If I am going to be in heavy or city traffic for some time I just shut the unit down altogether. Every single unit on the market is going to have its quirks. I know a few cats that are really into playing the game, and have multiple units in their rides. Even then, if a non radar car paces you, Its over. Part of traffic Police training is to estimate speed. Most cops use radar/laser to back up what they already suspect. Radar is a wide band spectrum. It will not pin point any one vehicle in a pack of cars.I have been pulled over after slowing down in a pack of cars. When I asked the Cop why he pulled me over when other cars passed me, His answer was "When I saw the group, You were leading the pack!" I never use my unit as a license to speed, But rather as a tool to help keep me out of trouble!

If you have the Tech package you have ICC, preview braking and Adaptive Front lighting System.

I would not say ICC is more trouble then it's worth... I just took a long trip and enjoyed it quite a bit. Laser detection is not very helpful and Escort offers a fix for it, but you do have RMA your detector. If I had to choose it would be ICC as the more valuable feature and setting it and keeping it set has prevented more tickets then the detector. I do set it for about 10-14 MPH above speed limit. NC cops usually don't want to write a ticket for under 15MHP over.

I'm refering to the fact that once your hit and it detects it's too late. It is nice to know you've been nabbed though . RMA is return merchandise authorization.

From Escorts site:
Laser Falsing
It is unusual to get false laser warnings. Some cars and other electronics put out more RF interference than others and that interference may cause a false laser alert when certain devices are used. Although rare, using the horn, windshield wipers, or accelerating, can generate RF interference in some vehicles. Does it do the same thing in other cars/trucks? New cell phones, new cars with laser adaptive cruise control, and the wind-shear equipment at some major airports can also cause false laser alerts.

If you are experiencing false laser alerts of this type, please call our Customer Service Department at 800-543-1608 and they will give you a repair authorization number and instructions on how to return to us. We will be able to make modifications to your detector that will help.

10-4 Thanks! I'm going to contact them and see if it is a fix I can do through my programing port. I am glad to have the "shifting option". This confirnms what I said before If your detecter does'nt have it, With a ligit hit, Your already dead. This is why I retired my 8500. When I got nabbed it was a few years ago and it was with Radar! No detecter running. I have been hit with laser more then a few times and it has worked excellent so far!

P.S the tag i got was for going 10 over! The term usually is not one to live by!

Yea Shifting would be the way to go, I just talked to them. They can increase the shielding to protect from RF signals causing false alerts. Actual laser however they can not help. I thinking now my constant alerts are cause by it being close to the homelink rear veiw mirror.. it was constant even without a car in front of me. I'm going to give it a try, 2 week turn around.

I assume these are becoming more popular in most states, but here in Ohio they have these "traffic cameras" on the highway that give me an instant on reading. Maybe this is what all of you are talking about with the K band stuff. I email Valentine and they mentioned changing the K band sensitivity. Are cops not using K band radars and now only using Ka? I assume there is no more X band usage.

I wouldnt send it back first without asking them what they plan to do first?

this sounds like a possible firmware update but you dont need to send it back to perform that. I plan on calling them in the morning and finding out what "modifications" they plan on doing, cause it sounds like just a firmware update.
