Good change with the W6s I originally had 3 12"W3s in my Audi but day two I swapped em all out for W6s and a new amp!

I have an identical setup like you, IC. Swap that w6 and the 4080 for a w7 and the correct enclosure and you will notice the Gigantic difference in sound and bass. Believe me.

W7 is a beast and quite honestly it's too big to fit flush in the Coupe I have one W6 now down from two and it is plenty of bass even for the car in front of me.

I like where you put the bass ****. If you don't mind, how did you take apart the center console to install the ****? I was checking it and did not find an easy way to get at that dummy button in the middle.

Also, are you running the tweeters off the Bose amp? I have the same sub setup, but would like some better highs.

Thanks.
Unfortunately, you do have to dismantle the center console which is not hard, but tedious. The blank panel pops out easily from the back. Once out, you will need to Dremel the center portion of the blank plate out to fit the bass **** after drilling the hole. Don't go crazy removing material, just keep test fitting until everything is snug.

The tweeters are running off the Bose amp but are sent through the crossovers first which also allows me to adjust their gain. Can't say enough about the C5 tweeters and crossovers. Outstanding stuff!

I've had 2 12" W3's before and I also find the W6 deeper and more accurate. You really get what you pay for and JL knows subs cold.

I have an identical setup like you, IC. Swap that w6 and the 4080 for a w7 and the correct enclosure and you will notice the Gigantic difference in sound and bass. Believe me.
I've never owned a W7 and probably won't as long as I have the G. Unless I'm mistaken the proper amp for a W7 is the 1000/1 which is a big *****. Couple that with the much larger sub and box combo and goodbye trunk! Plus, if I crank up the W6 that I have know it shakes the crap out of the G!

resurrecting this from the grave........when dynamiting the trunk lid would you put dynamat across the entire lid or just what can be concealed behind the fastened carpet?

Dynamat simply changes the mass of the panel, lowering its resonant frequency making it harder for sound waves within the trunk to induce sympathetic vibrations in the outer skin of the trunk lid. That said, you do not need to cover the entire lid with the stuff.

However.....depending on your level of commitment and pursuit of sound quality you may want to consider a two part system
  1. Apply the dynamat onto the trunk lid covering 50-60% of the accessible outer skin of the panel
  2. place a decoupling blanket between the trunk lid finisher and the trunk lid (Second Skin Luxury Liner for example)

This will keep the trunk lid from rattling (within reason) and help with the sound quality of the bass in the trunk. The down side of this is it will make the trunk lid so heavy the stock gas lift springs will no longer support the lid
