ipod vs HD

So are most people using the HD for their music or just sticking with the ipod? Is there any advantage to the HD other than its just part of the car? Any difference in the interface or how the songs are listed? I understnand you can't use playlists with the HD?

I find the HD to be the best feature on my G37. Its much more useful than an iPod. Being able to record hundreds of CDs and listen to them with a few clicks is awesome. I quit using my iPod after I drove it home from the dealership (500 miles away).

So what makes it easier than an ipod? Isn't it just some clicks on there as well?

What? Ipod is by FAR the best option for music on the G37. I can load my entire music collection 60Gb of 320Kbs mp3's in the time it takes MB to load 4 CDs. I can create playlists, sort by genre, artist ect and the best feature use the steering wheel to navigate through it while moving without having to buy a hack chip. MB is virtually useless if you have an Ipod. The other 20Gb on my Ipod are language courses and ebooks which MB wouldn't even recognize.. not to mention the actual audio CD's it doesnt recognize leaving you to manually enter titles.

I don't use Itunes, I use Windows Media player with a plug in to manage it, highly recommend it.

Hey Red, other than iTunes being a resource HOG, why else do you hate it? How is the plugin with WMP? Worth a try?

Honestly it's been so long since I've run it I don't remember what I disliked about iTunes and really it's more that I prefer WMP11 for managing the iPOD and the sync is fast as possible, the plug in is definately worth it.

I believe the ipod is much better. You can put much higher quality songs on an ipod but are limited to less than CD quality on the HD since the rippind bit rate only has two options. I can definitly hear a differnce between the same CD on ipod opposed to it be ripped to the HD.

I haven't tried the CF card reader. Do the controls work with it (rewind forward etc.)?

I guess I don't really see the usefulness of the CF card reader unless you don't have an ipod. I guess you could get a 16gb CF card and hold lots of songs vs the 9.3gb that the car holds. But if you have a 30gb ipod that you can hold more songs of a higher quality and use playlists, etc, why would you use the HD or CF slot? Other than maybe everything is contained in the car that way. What are the options for recording quality onto the HD?

Go to the Music Box. Scroll left to "Menu". Scroll down to "Music Box Info". Select "Music Box Settings". You will find can pick from to recording rates. This is also where you can change the title text priority. CDDB is a database of CD albums that are stored on the cars HD. I am not sure if this will be updated sometime becuase I wouldn't imagine it would recognize brand new albums unless they knew they were coming out far in advance. If you choose Title Text it will use the info that is actually burned on the disc. If you use itunes 7 or later this option to include this when burning is under references CD burning. Hope this helps.
