iPod Nano 4G

want to see if anyone else has this problem.

I have the new ipod nano 4th gen. everything works fine when using the ipod adapter cable. turns off and on, etc. but I thought it is supposed to charge too - mine displays a message saying 'Charging is not supported with this accessory'. Is that true? i'm pretty sure others have said their ipod classics, etc charge when plugged in.

and is there some secret to starting up the ipod to bypass the infiniti lock on using it when plugged in? in other words, anyway to use the ipod controls while docked? thought i read that too....

if it is the new nano, you need an updated ipod cable. last to be compatible to the old cable are the little square nano/video.

ok, i did more research here and in google. appears the 3G iphone and the new Nano's charge differently (USB vs firewire). so if you want to charge with the infiniti cable you need one of these:

http://www.cablejive.com/iphone_3g_c...converter.html

or

http://scosche.com/products/sfID1/21...productID/1667

the cablejive one has a USB port on it which can be used to charge other usb devices which is cool. anyone tried one of these? I'll probably order one even though the price seems somewhat high.

i've read mixed posts about whether or not the new 09 cable really charges the new iphone or 4th gen ipods.

I orderd the part from cablejive - should have this week. will post the results once I confirm.

I currently have Iphone 3G and charge it using this pass-through adapter link - works ok but lots of extra bulk. I have a sealed Ipod Classic 6th GEN and I wonder if this one works with the stock Infiniti cable for charging - dont want to open it if it does not, so if anyone has one let me know. I am also going to hit the dealer up about the cable since they should have made it right in the first place, I got my car 3 months ago and Apple announced the changes in charging requirements long time before that.

bump to know if its a new cable from infiniti to remedy this....
I bought an 09 g37x coupe and i have same problem, but the dealer gave me the cable from his office with the manual. Makes me wonder if this wasn't an '08 cable from stock?

Do the 09s really come with a new cable? I doubt it because that would mean the cable then wouldnt work with older ipods, which I'm sure the majority of people have. Unless they're gonna supply both cables with the car, they'll probably keep the one that works with the ipods that most people have.

No, that's not how it works. The older iPods could charge in two manners; 5V (i.e. USB) or 12V (i.e. Firewire). The newer iPods (Nano 4th Gen, Touch 2nd Gen, iPhone 3G), only charge via 5V, but most charging accessories were made for 12V charging only. Even newer accessories are still 12V even though Apple warned manufacturer's of the upcoming change for a long time now. The Infiniti iPod interface uses 12V, but even that is just a "trickle" charge--just enough to keep the iPod alive during use.

Presumably, it takes more than just a cable to change the Infiniti iPod interface from 12V to 5V power. But, if Infiniti did switch to 5V on newer models, or provide a new cable that supplied 5V, it would not be at the detriment of older iPods since the lowest common denominator is 5V charging.
