Max sending you a PM.
If you are only replacing the sub and are satisfied with the stock front stage, then just get a Zen and route out a bigger hole. If you are tolerant of the OEM front stage system then you will most likely not care about the rise in the 12W7's frequency response.

Spending a couple hundred on a box for a 3+yr lease is not a waste of money and you will likely be able to that same setup in your next car.

Dillyyo - Infinite Baffle setup

I'm a newbie to the forum. Had a G35 for 4 years, now I just got my G37S. I am interested in an infitite baffle configuration, but i've just gone with sealed boxes in the past. Does the IB compare to a well braced sealed box? Somehow I'm not sure if the sound quality would suffer. Do you have a pic of that setup -- I would really love to save the trunk space!

+1. Infinite baffle or trunk baffle or whatever they call it now. It works with the correct setup

The only thing that will most likely not compare to a box would be output. If you are an SPL nut then IB is not for you. If you are a person who likes SQ or maybe even a little SQL, then IB is for you. Frequency response's tend to be flatter and low end extension is it's fortay! In other words, IB setups go LOW in the sub bass range! I haven't had the baffle installed yet, but I will post when it is. In our cars, if you want to maintain any decent trunk space, IB is the only way to go. The 4080 is nice, but I need length for golf clubs.

Yeah, technically not a true IB, but anyone in the game knows what is implied. You have an IB setup with ID's, right?

I hear you loud and clear about those golf clubs! I am trying hard to preserve at least space for one set of clubs despite my need for bass! Currently I am trying to figure out how best to approach a setup for my new wheels. I appreciate your advice on the IB setup and I may go that way, but I'm not crazy about having the backs of the woofers exposed to the trunk space. There is another configuration that I experimented back in my days of installing that used two subs in a piggy back config that was referred to as isobaric with as little space as possible between the two subs, the only problem is that i would not be saving much space. I'll keep my eye on the forums. Have you sen a lot of G37/G35 cars using the spare tire well for a sub? If you have DIY pics, or links/URLs I would appreciate it! Thanx bro.

Because you sound like you're really concerned about the bottom dollar, IB setups need to be properly and fully sealed, which can be quite costly. Personally I think the best bang for the buck, and preservation of space is to just take out the spare and build with all the bottom panels removed. Get a copy of bass box pro, or winisd and make a square box on the bottom and a nice finishing piece on top and you’ll have a fully useable trunk with the extra bass you want.

Thats a negative! Being completly sealed is actually not wanted as it then is even more so a big, sealed box. What you do want is to seperate the front and rear waves from each other. If nto done, one will get cancellation of frequencies. The only thing that has to be taken into consideration for an IB is ability to put a baffle board or something, for wave seperation and using a proper sub that is made or applicable for IB use.

Your idea about a box will not leave you much space as you will raise your floor and will virtually have nothing. Ask me how I know!

Ourt spare tire well is actually twop plastic pieces that are easily removed and seperated. Unless one will cut all of the screw threads that stick up all over the trunk and are willing to cut off the spare tire bolting mount. I have two amps that are 33 in long so someone with just an amp sub and an IB setup could theoretically retain their spare, floor and have two 12 in subs in an IB setup. I will post pics on how purrtty the rear of the trunk will look with the IB setup.

Like what dilyo said, SPL bums, this is not for you. Mine is set up exactly like this with different amplifiers. Enough bass for me for SQ set up

Thanks for the link!
That install looks clean. I have heard of ID and Eric (H?) a long time back in the 90's when I was in high school and much more into car audio. He and Speakerworks are legend even waaay up here in Canada. You are obviously in good company.
I'll be lookin out for your pics. I'm still holding out on starting my build until I see a few more ideas.
