Aftermarket amp and sub installation

Question for aftermarket amp folks: What gauge of power wire did you run to your amp and where did you run it? Is there a grommet already in place to run large gauge (0 AWG) wire? If you have only a sub added, where did you splice into the factory wiring? Any pictures before I go tearing into things? Any experience on the G is appreciated.

Also, for those who don't have the premium package, are there tweeters mounted in your sail panels or are they plain?

0gauge might be overkill depending on what you are doing. If you only have one amp and only will have one amp then run the gauge that it needs. I think most of the time it is either 4, 6, 8 gauge. I know 4 and 8 gauge are correct but I might be wrong about 6. I have been out of the car audio market for 6+ years now.

And no the power wire is not there. It will need to be ran.

do you have to remove the rear seat to run the 0 gauge to the front? Or can you some how squeeze it through the side? I was looking and couldn't figure out how to pass that.

Could you throw up some info about what you are installing, subs/amp specs. I doubt you'll need anything more than a 4 or 8 gauge kit.

I used a JL 500.1 amp and I ran with 4g. That is what is recommended. Ran it down the passenger side, between the rear seat and plastic body panel. Under the hinge of the rear seat and up into the trunk area. Under the trunk carpet, in the spare tire whole over to the amp on the left wheel well. Made sure it was tucked out of the way so as to not be pinched.

0 ga is an overkill for just a normal setup... I am not doing a normal setup. By the time I am done I hope 2 be pushing 1500watts to subs and 1000 to other 14 speakers...

The rubber grommit is there from the factory... It has a rubber tube in it with nothin going thru it...

Back seat did not need to be removed... the hardest part was fishing it from the battery...

Ther'es no kill like overkill! My plan is to run a single amp and just a sub at first. Stage 2 is the second amp and components. I don't want to run power wire twice. I may be able to get away with 4 gauge, but I'd rather have the 0. I would personally never run any amp with wire lighter than 4 gauge, but that's just me. I don't want my amps starving for current from too small a gauge of power wire; 0 gauge leaves no doubt that they might be.

And yes I know the power wire wasn't already there silly, hence I'm asking about it. I meant was the grommet in the firewall already there!?

While I was posting you answered my grommet question. If you 0 AWG think overkill is for multiple amps pushing 2500 watts that you'll have, I'd disagree. I cannot image why you would want 14 speakers in this car, but have fun and post pictures.

Did anyone get pictures while installing their equipment?

I didnt get any pictures... but you cant miss the grommet...

As for 14 speakers... it will actually be 15 speakers... but I will not touch the center channel... and if you count the subs it will be 17 speakers...

4 gauge is likely not heavy enough power wire IMO to supply curent to multiple amps pushing 2500 watts RMS. I'd go overkill with the 0, that leaves no doubt that maybe it coulda/shoulda been bigger.

I like car audio too. I just prefer to keep it simple. For my ears more speakers is generally worse, not better. I'll end up running only a single set of 2 way or possibly 3 way (still undecided) components in the front stage and a pair of 10" subs (when 4080 gets around to producing the passsenger side enclosure) all powered from one or 2 amps.

What speakers/subs/amps are you going with?

Good luck with your setup. I'd love to hear it when we have our 1st annual national G37 meet.

Maybe I misunderstood you mistunderstanding me...lol I did go with 0 ga and i never ment that I thought it was overkill... Heck at one point I thought about running 0 and 4 lol...

Subs will either be 2 JL 13w5s or 2 10w7s... This all depends on if the W5s are released on time. Fiberglassed box, Rockford Amps, and for the door and highs Im still undecided. I have a couple options... Leave the bose and add 4 tweeters... or change out all the bose and add 4 tweeters... or change out a couple of the bose and add 4 tweeters... either way.. IM ADDING 4 Tweeters...
Its really up in the air until I have a meeting with the installer and he is 45 minutes away so I just havent had time...

I know I gotta find a way to make sure the HU can gimme what I need to run this time of system... I do know that I will not change the HU out... that really is my only for sure...

So... its really way up in the air right now...
