The Escort ZR3 is the jammer from escort that is currently on the market with the ZR4 being released sometime soon. With that being said, in my opinion, I would recommend the Valentine One for a radar detector. If you are interested in laser protection, I would recommend a Laser Interceptor jammer. I wouldn't worry too much about the jammer being illegal in California. Usually the ticket for a jammer is way cheaper than the ticket for speeding is. Also when you get hit with laser, just simply slow down to the posted speed limit and hit the kill switch on your jammer. The Leo will then get a valid read out on your vehicle and never realize you have a jammer in most situations.

I had a valentine and now I have the X50. I see no discernible difference between the two. I agree with the other people that the arrows in theory are great but practice serve the same purpose of alerting you... either way, both are great detectors.

For everyone's information, laser jammers are not illegal in most states due to the fact you're not transmitting radio waves. FCC is very strict about that...

So any other suggestions? If I want to hardwire the Passport 9500i to the mirror with the stealth cord from the other thread, would the tint strip at the top interfere with the gps signal? What about the under the mirror mount? Anyone have experience with that and the 9500i? I remember reading something about the unit going crazy with the nav screen when it's mounted on the mirror and that's a bad thing

 

I've had several Escorts (solo, 8500, etc) as well as a V1. I prefer the V1 out of all of them.

 

you cant go wrong if you get either the passport or the v1. i have the v1 and couldn't be happier. the arrows do save you no matter what people say. if you haven't had it, you won't miss it, but if you've had it, you'll never go back. ex. if there is rolling radar, you can tell whether the cop is behind you or in front of you. you can locate the source and drive accordingly.

the hardwire for the mirror is available for both detectors. the falsing is due to the lcd screen and is not a big deal unless you accidentally tilt the detector to aim at the screen.

edit: let me ask those 9500 owners. what if cops get wise to the falsing lock outs and sit at a location that they know falses all the time. your 9500 wouldn't go off at this location and you would never know you were being clocked. is anyone concerned about this. if your response is "people who have detectors that false all the time at the same location will ignore them too.", it is not valid for v1 owners. the bogey counter will tell you how many sources it is picking up.

Cops around me do this all the time. There is a substation that evidently fixes the radar trailers, so they test them by setting them by the front of the property along a major highway feeder. Most people just ignore it, but several times a week cops will sit there and nail the people who just fly by thinking it's the trailers.

Having said that....the 9500s are able to distinguish different signals by frequency, so if there is more then one signal it will usually still alert for the "new" signal it detects.

Having had a V1 and several Escorts, I prefer the Escort. The arrows are nice, and I do miss them, but the Escorts seemed to pick up a little better (especially cops sitting down side roads). Either one is well worth the money though.

Edit: And to respond to the false alerts with LCD. I've yet to have this issue, wish is suprising since Escorts are notorious for giving false laser alerts. It was so bad in my 05 G35 that I bought the V1. However I've had no issues in my 08 which is why I went back to Escort.

^^ BOOOOO Speed limit FTL. But soooo true. I have no decator but have never gotten a ticket in my G. Only ticket I ever got was in my work truck. And that sucked.
