Help Mismatched tires on sedan
Mismatched tires on sedan
I had to do change my summer tires before a long trip because they were done. I found 3 bridgestone run flats in great condition, so decided to look for another same dimension run flat. Now I have 3 bridgestone and 1 dunlop , all runflat and 245/40/19. Now , what are the possible problems running one tire different than other 3 ? Is it ok for a while at least ? Just to complete my trip and safely come back ? Some say it can blow the differential, and some say the car will pull to one side. Tread depth wise , all 4 tires are almost identical. Please help. Thank you
As long as they're the same class of tire (AS, Snow, 3-season, run-flats), you'll be fine.
Keep the tires with the most similar tread depth on the same end (front vs. rear). And put the tires with the most tread depth in the rear.

IMO, if you're not pushing the car mismatched tire types is [barely] acceptable. If you are... You'll start to notice traction differences which can lead to issues. For the given tires models/size, what does tire rack indicate the revs/mile spec to be? Even if its close, there's likely to be traction coefficient and contact patch differences.
