What is "extra" stud on front brake rotor/hub?

I got the Hotchkis sways installed, and drained/filled the tranny one more time (nice and red now), so I just pulled the drivers side wheels off as I wanted to see if the rear "duck feet" rims would clear the front calipers or rub. I am not a fan of staggered set ups since you cannot rotate your tires and I go through 2 to 3 rears for every front. I wanted to see if I could just buy another set of rear duck feet wheels, put them in the front, and run 245/45-18 all around.

However as I am trying to get the wheel onto the studs, the bolt that holds the rotor on is interfering as it is almost as tall as the wheel studs and it hits the cut outs on the inside of the rear wheel. Does this post really need to be there or can I remove it?

That bolt is there to keep you from doing what you did
It's there so you won't accidentally swap the rears to the front, it is fine if you remove it. Just be sure to keep those 8.5" width wheels in back if you keep the staggered setup.

Thanks. I pulled it off and found it was just screwed into the rotor, not even all the way to the hub... So I found the rears wheels will fit on the front, clear the calipers and does not appear they will rub (although I did not drive it like this)... So

I guess now I keep my eyes open for some inexpensive used rear duck feet rims. Or I buy a set of the Motegi MR131 Traklite 18x9 wheels for ~$600. Have to wait until the new year and see how things are going when my current rear tires wear out. I am very happy with the Hotchkis sways as the rear end does not seem nearly as "loose" as it was before when I went for a quick spin in an empty parking lot. (I used the center holes on the rear sway).

lucky- been contemplating such a move as well, though the few i have contacted all want to keep the 245s not 225, so harder to find. good luck and post a pic when you have it set up...
