Tire sizes

Currently have 225/50/18 on stock rims on a 09 X coupe. Would there be any fitment issues by going to
225/55/18?. They are just over an inch bigger in diameter. Just looking to fill the wheel well a bit more instead of lowering. Will these fit without any rubbing clearance issues?
Thanks for any input

Going with a larger diameter tire is never the answer to fill the wheel gap. A tire that size will never clear anyway.

Correct. Larger tire never fill wheel gap, but 225/55/18 clear/fit with out any problems.

A 225/55/18 will clear but is over 3% taller, may cause other issues, 3% difference in diameter from oem is the line that seems to be drawn as far as where problems w/ ABS & traction control systems may start to occur. There are those, particularly on the Z boards that run smaller diameter tires for tracking that are over 3% without problems but I wouldn't give it the green light.

This would only make a 1/2" difference in the visual gap, not worth the issues it may cause.

Yes Sir. 3% is "magic" number for tires sizes. I don't say to go over or under this number with tires sizes. I just say 225/55/18 will fit with out any rubbing/clearance issues that what OP ask.

As long as all 4 tires are the same size, then you shouldn't have ABS/ Traction control issues.
However I still wouldn't recommend it as it will definitely throw off the accuracy your speedometer. The car will also likely have a softer/ less sharp handling feel.

In addition, I don't think that you will get the look that you trying to accomplish. It will just look like a fatter tire with similar wheel gap. Once you lower it, that should be all you need to minimize wheel gap.
