Not once have I ever had anything but stellar work and attitude from their people, and this is at any of the countless locations I've patronized all over California.

That business is one of the very few in the automotive world, that which I'm entirely loyal, and I always recommend their services when quarried.

P.S. I suppose if I were adamant that they use only a certain kind of tool on my wheels, and they didn't, my tune might change. But seeing as how I've never once experienced a scratched wheel, stripped or cross threaded nut, etc - I guess it's moot for me.

It also depends which location you go to. There are just some people who have that "IDGAF" attitude at their jobs. They have no regard for others property, at the end of the day, they're just there for a paycheck.

Victory, that sucks man. Hopefully everything gets replaced.

So, listen to this ****. Guy completely went back on everything we discussed yesterday then lied to my face half a dozen times. In the end, he offered to replace that one lugnut. That's it.

first, he pulls the car in the bay, loosened and tightens the lugnuts with a torque wrench and says they'll replace the rounded one (i should say the worst rounded one). I asked if he checked the wheel studs weren't stretched with a no-go guage. He said yes. He never had the tires off the car so i call bull****.

he tells me if the studs were stretched the torque wrench wouldn't have clicked.

i was so dumbfounded by that response I was at a loss for words. I knew this wasn't going to go well. I told him he needed to pull the wheels and check the threads. He started getting pissy but compiled. His tech lifts the car, pulls the wheels then walks across the bay and bull****s with another tech for 20 minutes. The parts truck arrives, hands off a lug nut and they put the wheels back on.

"how were the threads?"
"fine"
"You used a no-go guage?"
"uh, we dont have one of those, they look fine though"
"you checked the runout on the rotors?"
"yeah, they're fine. There's a couple hot spots"
"That lug nut you replaced was nissan oem?"
"yes"
"the bag on your desk says dorman"
"dorman makes parts for nissan"
"uh huh..."

I wasn't going to argue with him. I left, took the car over to infiniti, told the story to the service writer who looked shocked when i dropped the lugnut on his desk. Waiting for them to give me documentation of what's damaged and the proximate cause of said damage, then I'll head back and stick it up his ***.

That sucks.

I'd strongly recommend finding an independent shop. At least that way they have some skin in the game. IOW, they F up, they lose time and money fixing it. In my experience, the chain ships DGAF. It's no skin off their back if the redo your car 2 or 5 times.

Tire Kingdom once mounted both front wheels in one side, and both rear wheels on the other side.

A second Tire Kingdom I went to only put the last game on finger tight. Massive wobble. Snapped several studs and lost the lugs.

Ask for the district manager, and then ask who his boss is. Don't settle until you have a direct phone # for one of them. Politely bi@ch a fit.

cool, Infiniti says the studs are ok, a couple lugnuts are ugly but functional. hubs are in spec, rotors are not. Said the timing of the brake judder probably wasn't a coincidence but i've got 30k on the front brakes and they maybe had 6 months left on them so it's not even worth getting into a pissing match for $120 worth of rotors I'd probably be replacing soon anyway. At least I know the wheels aren't gonna pop off

Billed me for a "tire rotation" and handed me a fist full of lugnuts they took off cars getting wheel locks gratis. Replaced the dorman lugnut, the chrome was already flaking off it from being handled twice. LOL

The patience that some members exhibit when telling stories like this really amazes me. Y'all have the patience of Saints.

I can typically tolerate a lot; and I especially make an effort as I get older (forcing myself to mature), but lying and deception doesn't fall in that realm. I'd have been real quick to unload what I thought; especially if I was catching a hint of attitude. I know, I know, "What will that get you?"

Nothing...but if they've pushed me to that point I didn't have much to gain by being cordial either.

Glad to hear things kind of worked out despite the service.

My policy is to listen and only ask enough questions to let people bury themselves. Getting into a pissing match doesn't solve anything and just lets them know to be on the defense for whatever your next move is. As far as he knows, I'm grateful for the ****ty lugnut. That's why it will be a big surprise when tirerack contacts him about his recommended installer status.

@Victory, was this a discount tire shop or some other? If it's a chain brand, maybe time to get corporate involved?

yeah, it was a franchise location. Tires were from tirerack and this was the most convenient recommended installer. I'm just going to try and get tirerack to de-list them. I doubt their corporate people care what their shady franchisees are up to

Victory, no reason not to hit up your dealership for things like this. Describe your nightmare to them, and they'll probably treat you like a king in hopes that you come back for larger jobs and that you spread good word. Also, you know how dealerships are all overboard about customer feedback polling from corporate? Well, easy little jobs like this are low-hanging fruit for them to report positive feedback.

Reading through your thread here... OMG. Really messes with your faith in people.

The dealership does treat me well, but now that i'm off warranty, they can be ungodly expensive for some things and i've had little luck finding a good independent shop that really knows these cars. I just recently made the decision to switch careers so I've been trying to pinch pennies.

See where that got me...

Price out the dealership. You'll be surprised to find little services like this are priced very competitively... and for the reasons I just said. It's an easy way to generate 100% positive feedback to corporate on the little things, and from a marketing/sales POV, it's an easy argument to make.

Also, not all dealerships are predatory. Give it a shot.

Like i said, i have no issue with the dealership here. They do good work and already know im a DIYer that they can't upsell. That said, it would have been twice as much money for the service. Worth it in retrospect, but i did price it out and the free coffee wasn't gonna make up the $120 difference for the mount, balance and alignment. My budget right now is super tight. Left a good paying job to go back to school for one that hopefully doesnt drive me to tears.

^That's tough man, but I applaud you for bettering yourself and making a change. Not easy to go back once you stop. Trying to get in the groove myself. Taking one class at a time right now. Slow and steady baby.
