Plasti Dip rims?

So planning to plasti dip my rims until I can afford a new set of wheels. I'm planning to take the wheels off to spray them so I get even coats and it looks good (using black and the glossifier). Has anyone done so before? Do I just tape off the TPMS sensor? Any and all recommendations/help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i have done it on my friends civic rims. i took the rims off the car and washed it really well with a degreaser. then index card the tires. then just a few even coats. if you get over spray on the tires it rubs off really easily.

I think dipyourcar.com has a coating that you can put over your tire's sidewall so if you do get plastidip on the tires, it peels right off after you're done.

Ok cool. Anyone know about using the plasti dip over the TPMS sensor? Should I just cover it with tape? And is it easier to take off 2 rims at a time or all 4? My cousin said he tried doing all 4 at once and said it was rough using the jack stands.

I used index cards around the rim to protect the side wall while spraying and that worked out good. After 6 months of hating the plasti dip look, I took the rims off and sent them out for powdercoat, so so much better now.

If you were going for a high gloss look, the plastidip + glossifier won't get you there.

Try these two products.

Thanks for that, I ended up using the plasti dip because I had already bought it but will likely try the autodip in the future since I didn't get a real gloss finish (like you said would happen). Still looks good though! Before
After

Did one bottle of Plasti Dip cover all 4 rims? how is it? any thoughts now that you had it for a while? Thinking of doing the same.

I used 3 cans for a total of 5 coats. Note: do NOT use the index card method seen posted by some people. The plasti dip won't get the outer lip of the rim. I realized this partway through and took the notecards off and just sprayed around now there's leftover on the tire that really won't come off. I tried using tire cleaner a few days after applying and still couldn't. It started to peel off quickly for me, but that might be from the way I applied it.

I ended up just getting the rims (and brake calipers) powder coated and it came out great.
