Like the title says, car is a 2011 and now 6 years later the batteries are dying. The dealer wants like $200 per sensor. Where are yall buying new ones? I cannot stand living with a light on the dash, so that's not an option. I found an old thread, but the link is dead

How is the dealer charging $200 "per"? MSRP is $94.17, each. You can find OEM discounted for $70-ish on eBay and at a number of online Infiniti parts sellers. I'm sure Tire Rack's aftermarket replacements (not sure who their supplier is) are good quality and there are a number of others out there as well. I would just steer clear of Dorman. On other cars I've found them to be hit and miss. Even though I could have returned/exchanged them... obviously getting them back out of the wheel incurs more cost than it was worth when they worked "most" of the time. I think your OEM part number should be 407001LA0E. Google that, search for it on eBay, etc.

 

Ebay, I got a used set of 4 for like $25. Exact part number and all..

 

Thanks guys! And I'm sure you can imagine how far my jaw hit the floor when the dealer said $200 per sensor. Or should I say $800 for all 4 installed.

yes they were used, but whatevs. If they crap out I'll try to have the dealership replace it under warranty..I hope..otherwise I'll be back on ebay.

 

Can the battery be replaced in these?

The TPMS in my motorcycle (2011 Kawasaki C14) has non-replaceable batteries, but one of the very technical guys on the bike forum figured out how to replace them. So, I thought that I'd ask.

Also if someone has a few dead TPMS laying around, I'd gladly take a shot at replacing the batteries. I've done this in the TPMS units in my bike.

 

This may be a dumb question but why not just replace the battery? Or is that a thing?

 

No easy way to replace batteries on these. They are sealed units.....

 

I bought the Tire Rack sensors about two years ago for $55 each. They looked identical to OEM sensors on my 2008. The sensors were made in Japan. The sensors work great.

discount tire did em' for me @ $75 each ...only got one done - living with the light for my front driver side one died out right now lol

 

I'm so glad I have them. It only comes on when there's a really hot or really cold day, I assume tire pressure fluctuation can set them off.

 

I thin kthe $200/per wheel include the sensor, dismounting the tire from the rim, installing the sensor and remounting and balancing the wheel. Basically 100 for the sensor and 100 for labour. High but not insane for the dealer assuming it includes taxes and the OP may be rounding up.

That being said, I've bought three sets of used sensors for about 50-60 i think for the entire set off of ebay. There a seller out of PA that has been on there for years. They include new valve stems. I haven't had one die on me yet. I always wait to have them installed when I'm getting new tires mounted on wheels anyways and the tire guys never charge extra for it unless I want them programmed by them too.

I thought that might be the case but still sounds way off... I had my dealer (because I was there for warranty work anyways) mount and balance tires on wheels I brought in, with sensors I brought in, and program them to the car... The labor was $129.95, at the dealer.
