Need tires... can I squeeze wheels in my budget too?

My current setup: 2008 Sport Coupe (Platinum Graphite) with the staggered 19" OEM setup on General GMax tires that need replacing. I bought the car with these tires. The previous owner had the wheels painted/powder-coated to match the body color and they have some dings/rash (some was there, some is my doing). I will post pictures tomorrow.

I like the look of the OEM wheels, but would also love a change. Since I need tires anyways, now would be the time to get wheels (although my budget is a little tight right now). This is my daily with some spirited driving, but will not see the track.

I thought of some options:
  1. get new tires and take suggestions for decent wheels within my budget
  2. get new tires and get my current wheels fixed/re-coated
  3. get some decent quality used tires and save up for dream wheels (Work Emotion CR Kiwami)

If I stick with my OEM wheels, my new tires will probably be the 245/40, 275/35 setup with Hankook Ventus V12s

If getting wheels, here are my stipulations:
  • I'd like to keep my total budget under $2k (wheels/tires/lugs/install/misc)
  • looking for 19" but willing to entertain decent 18" suggestions (not interested in 20")
  • must be lighter weight than the OEM sport wheels (shouldn't be too difficult, haha).
  • mildly aggressive offset is okay... stretched tires are NOT okay
  • used or other vehicle OEM wheels (g35/370z/etc) wheels are okay to suggest, just be specific so I know what to look for!
  • I would like to stay away from chrome... colors of choice would be bronze, black, or a graphite. I did see some purple Work Kiwamis on facebook awhile back that I drooled over, so feel free to toss out some crazy color suggestions too!
  • I have a set of Eibach springs sitting in my garage that need to be installed, so I'd like to get something that will still fit okay with these installed

Post up your suggestions!

Don't skimp on tires ever. Get the best tires you can. All the best are within your $2K budget. Save what's left over and determine which wheels you really want. Save up the rest of the money you'll need and get them later.

Yea, not skimping on tires, just wondering if I could get wheels too... may have been a slight miscommunication.

TLDR: getting new tires and have ~$1000-1200 wiggle room left... can I find a decent set of wheels in that price range

Thanks blnewt! Everything recent in that thread expired, but I'll keep an eye out as well as doing some digging of my own.

Hello! I have a set of four Rays Gram Light 57 Extreme in winning blue color. These wheels are staggered, 19x9.5 +35 rear and 19x8.5 +33 front. PVD is 5x114.3. Fits Nissan/Lexus/Toyota

Wheels were used for less than a year, have NO bends, and are in excellent shape other than some curb rash on the front wheels. The front tires are shot and the rears are pretty much brand new.

VERY lightweight wheels made in Japan. Quality stuff, wheels alone cost over $2,200 new.

Includes blue Rays center caps that were an additional $100.
Grabbed the pic and description just in case... I've heard good things about these wheels. Is this worth driving 1 1/2 hrs to check out?

Also, would the 245/40 275/35 still be the best setup for these wheels?

Send VenomGT9 a PM, he's pretty good about finding deals if you live in or near a big metro area. Might be able to find some used 370Z wheels which would be forged Rays which are plenty strong, high quality, and lighter weight. These have good coupe offsets too. Even used GT-R wheels show up fairly often in the 1,200-1,400 dollar range.

Atlanta is the closest biggest city?
Yeah I've been slacking on the deals thread because the forum sites haven't been working at the work computer and I'm never really on when I'm home
I can easily find you a set of 370z Rays for around if not under 1k

Yea, just south of Atlanta. I contacted the guy with the Rays I posted above, but he sold them before I was able to get up there.

There's some G35 rays available locally for pretty cheap... I've seen a couple pictures of them on G37s. They looked good on the sedans I could find, but looked a bit small on the coupes. Anyone got any pictures of coupes that look good with these mounted?

What's the widest tire you could safely mount on the G35 rays?

Those are quality wheels (strong & lightweight), shouldn't look small on the coupe, I've seen a couple setups and they look proper IMO. They have good BBK clearance and better offsets than the OEM G37 wheels. I wouldn't run any wider than a 245/40 in front and a 255/40 in back, probably just as well to run 245s all around.
