Tirerack Help. G37S Sedan Squared or Staggered w All Season Tires
The summer tires on my 2009 G37S sedan are toast & I'm currently using my winter tires which may have 1 or 2 seasons left. For the first time since I've own this car & I'm the original owner, I'm considering using an all season tire all year round. Car is getting old & I’m not sure if I want the added expense of buying new summer tires in the spring & possibly new winter tires next year.
If I decide to use all season tires all year round should I run them staggered or squared? And yes I know I can rotate a squared set up but this fact will not decide my decision. A squared set up should give me slightly better snow performance because the rear tires will be a little bit narrower, 225-50-18's in the rear as opposed to 245-45-18 in the rear. But how much better will it be?
I’m just trying to decide if the slightly better snow performance will be significant enough between running 225-50-18 all around as opposed to using the OEM staggered set up which consist of 225-50-18 in the front & 245-45-18’s in the rear.
Also in the dry will I notice a difference in handling by running a squared set up VS the OEM staggered set up?
Thanks.

Seems most the benefits to using a square set-up you already educated on, which is good. The 245 will have a harder time cutting through ice/snow and on a rwd car, every bit narrower you can go helps. If you're more concerned about poor weather traction than planting the rear end in corners during aggressive driving, then I would vote square 225 set-up. How much better they are in winter or how much less handling you'll have in the summer greatly depends on how hard/easy you drive the car in those scenarios.
