do Front & Rear tires must match?

Hello guys,

I have 2008 G37 coupe. So I need to replace the front two tires on my car . The rear tires have PLENTY of tread life on them, but for one reason or another I may not be able to get the same type of tire because I wanna try different brand. I have POTENZA RE050A on the front and rear now. Im thinking about replace the front with PILOT SUPER SPORT. Do you all think I should get same brand tire as the rear? Thank you.

No, they don't have to match. I run different tires on front/rear, but I also have a Sport (yours may be as well) with different size tires and can't do tire rotations.

If you own a rwd it doesn't really matter if the front and rears are different but if you own an awd then all 4 should be the same tread pattern.

If driven normally, then it doesn't matter. However, for optimal traction, yes they should match. Since you're going with the PSS, it sounds like your intention isn't to baby it. Differing amounts of traction can cause one end to break lose. Also, wet weather function may be affected.

You can always sell your old tires to try to recoup some of the money.

Good point. I didn't even think about the AWD aspect, as I have the S.

Should be fine and when the time comes just get PSS in back.
The main thing you never want to do is mix a all season tire w/ a summer tire, and mixing different speed ratings or drastically different load ratings isn't a good plan.

Or using Goodyear RS-As at any time.

I had rs-a on my camaro when it went sideways on the interstate after a light rain. Swore I'd never ever buy another goodyear tire again.

When you say S, that still doesn't distinguish the driveline, is it RWD or AWD? I'll assume RWD and agree with them saying you can absolutely run different tires in the front and back. What do you think drag cars do??
