New Tires- rears stick out more than original

So I just got new Michelins for my G37 convertible, stock 18 inch wheels. P225/50/r18 front, P245/45/r18 rear, which are stock as previous. I noticed the rear tire seems to stick out more relative to the wheel, with a palpable edge near the rim. It's the same on both sides. Car drives great, smooth, and quiet. The front tires appear normal. Was wondering if this is typical appearance and just related to different brand tire. And also assuming the wheels cannot be switched (front to back).

Rear tire 245/45/r18 - Notice how the tire extends farther from the rim edge

front tire 225/50/r18 Normal relationship of tire to rim

The rear tire has that rubber wheel protecting edge built in, I guess they don't include that in the front tire size. Are the tires the same model and same load rating?

And if the wheels are all the same width you can switch front to back but you need to keep the wider tires in back.

Appreciate the quick reply. The tires are different. The front are MXM4 primacy, rear MXM4 Pilot. The previous were all Bridgestones (same sizes as current) and didn't have the ridge like that, so was concerned something was wrong. Thanks.

If the car came with staggered tires/wheels it's likely the S package. Going from a summer only to all season will degrade the handling of the car.

At the least, it advisable to stick with the same model tire all around to ensure equal traction at all 4 corners.

I don't see the logic in buying 4 brand new tires and mixing models...

I'd have whatever tire shop recommended you do that put 4 of the same tires on and then never return since they obviously have no idea what they're doing.

Yeah, pretty odd combo. I'd really suggest moving to the same model front/rear.

Thanks for great comments and I totally agree. I live on Maui, and we are stuck with COSTCO for tires within reasonable prices and delivery time. The old front tires were decomposing. 7 years old, 18000 miles, and peeling off. When I purchased the new tires for some reason they did not have a matching front and rear set in Michelin, which I wanted for quiet ride since we can't drive over 40mph where I live. Poor excuses, but I opted for MXM4 Michelins with slightly different models. I could have got matching Bridgestones that day but didn't. Anyway, the odd look of the rear tires is what bothered me, even though it is the correct size. Thanks.

No, it's a base model convertible, not sport. r18s, P225 and P245.

Just because they both have MXM4 in them doesn't mean they are similar tires... at all...

Yes I could have gone with Amazon or internet. Frankly it's so easy to not have to find someone with a pickup to drive me to a tire installer I would trust, then have to worry about warranty if something goes wrong. Costco generally does a great job, and as I said earlier, we drive at 40-45mph 95% of the time on Maui, maybe 60 mph for a few minutes speeding on the other side of the island once every few weeks. It's not like I'm doing 120 on the Florida Turnpike in my old Turbo Z. It's unfortunate I got 2 different tire models, dumb on my part. Maybe in 7 years when we have 36,000 miles on the car I'll get it done right.
