Just replaced a set of Hankook Ventus V12 Evo V2 with a set of Continental ExtremeContact DW. What. A. Difference.
My G37S came with a new set of Hankooks when I bought the car. They seemed to have pretty good grip, handled the rain okay and (not surprisingly) sucked in the snow. Since buying it I have installed a set of Hotchkis swaybars. But after 10k miles the rear tires were already close to the tread wear indicators. Considering an upcoming road trip, and multiple rim gashes from curb contact, I decided to visit Tire Rack and shop for a set of +0 tires.
I opted for the Contis in 275/35ZR19 rears and 245/40ZR19 fronts to give me a bit of curb protection. Plus I think those sizes look better. So there.
I immediately noticed a better ride and the first mile on the highway was a good deal quieter. I had no idea how noisy those Hankooks were! But the grip is also excellent. Plus these are about the same price as the Hankooks- which is to say these are the second cheapest performance tires suggested for this car.
If conti would beef up the DW sidewall near the PSS level and keep similar tread wear this tire would be amazing.
But agreed, for how little these cost it's hard to argue for normal driving.
I'm a really big fan of continental tires. The ratio of price to performance is really quite excellent. They're also lighter and have a more comfortable ride than a lot of other tires.
