If you own a car you should own a tire gauge before you buy anything else for the car. Don't buy a $2 one at Pep Boys, don't need to break the bank but skip Starbucks for a day and get a gauge. I have three of these I got at Home Depot, all read the same so they are all either spot on or all off by the same amount. You get a tire tread depth gauge too.
@OP, invest in a tire gauge and check pressure (when cold or car has sat for at least 6-8 hours) every few weeks or at once a month.
Driving on tire with low pressure can result in a blow out.
Note, if 3 tires are all around the same psi but the 4th is much lower, start looking for a leak - usually a puncture. If you can't find it, take it to a tire shop. I was loosing about 1-2 psi a week in one of my tires. Since I didn't drive the car daily I just topped it off whenever I did go. I examined the tire but couldn't figure out where it was leaking from. Eventually dismounted the wheel and still couldn't find the leak. No visible nails, not leaking from the valve stem, or rim bead on either side. Sprayed it down real good with soapy water to find tiny bubble at the tread. Turned out the head of the nail got ground down and the stem was a few mm below the tread. Plugged it and am all good now.
At the risk of offending the OP, this is why devices like TPMS are foisted upon us. Vehicle owners can't be counted upon to perform even the simplest of tasks, such as checking tire pressure and engine oil. Hell, the newer BMW inline 6s don't even come with an engine oil dipstick.
To be honest, I'd rather not have TPMS. It's just another thing to break. I check tire pressure, engine oil level, etc. regularly. To me, it's part of owning a car.

TPMS is nice to have on a summer trip from L.A. to SLC. You cannot have too much info about your car. Too bad it's a wear item though.
