Chrome on barrels of wheel peeling badly. Is it repairable?

So I have a set of 20 inch Iforge challenge 3 piece wheels I traded for last summer. However the front two wheels just did not hold up well at all they are pretty much trashed the chrome on the barrels is peeling of badly. I called one place and sent them a picture and he said that they can't repair it because its peeling and I would have to replace the barrels. They also told me that you can't or shouldn't powder coat aluminum wheels because it will damage the metal? Does anyone know with any certainty if I am just **** out of luck or if I can actually get these fixed up?

At this point probably better off just replacing the barrels, hopefully they shouldn't cost too much, might not be much more than trying to have them re-chromed.

Main reason I stay far away from chrome. Rebarreled is like 150 a lip.not counting reassembly ,ballanced and sealed.plus shipping.try and find somewhere local to cut shipping costs.go with a polished lip.since chrome will just pit and peel once again.goodluck.if it was me.I'd have the lips powder coated which is cheaper and then sell them.

I feel like this is going to be a hassle to get taken cae of since I don't have a spare set of wheels to use for the time being. Specially since I am trying to sell the car might have to buy stock wheels to throw on it and fix these up and sell
