New member here needing advice on new tires!

Hello everyone. I am new to this forums and a fairly new owner of a 2013 Infiniti G37 Journey Sedan. I bought a pre owned 2013 G37 last December with 30k miles (Previous Owner must have commuted a lot). Anyway I had my oil changed yesterday and the dealership suggested me to change my tires ASAP because I am the wear bar. My current tires are the Bridgestones and I am looking for the best commuter tire that will a long time. I usually commute city driving and freeway therefore there is no need for performance oriented tires. Thanks in advanced and I hope to make new friends here.

Welcome to the G family.

There's been a number of threads discussing this - search is your friend.

Having said that, my $0.02 is this:

I've been driving on Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position tires, and I'm quite impressed. They are quite a bit cheaper than Michelin tires, but have same level of performance, IMHO. Good cruising tire, fairly quiet, excellent grip and tire wear, in dry and wet weather. I expect to get about 25-30k miles out of them.

This is a summer tire, so don't get it if you expect to drive it in the snow.

Hey! Thanks for replying and the welcome! I actually did research but I did not find a straight answer. I am just going in American Tire and see what they recommend. I live in CA and dont need any winter tires. I will check out that tire you recommended. I really wanted to get Yokohamas but we will see. I will keep you updated once I get a new set of tires!

Welcome to the site.
Choosing tires can be quite a chore, so many choices and you need to decide if you want grip or tread life. As far as not needing a performance tire because you commute, depends if you want to have some fun, spirited driving in between "business".
I assume you have the base 17" wheels so IMO you'd do well to get some quality summer tires since they won't be crazy expensive in a 17" size, you can also go a bit wider than the 225s you're on now for a bit more planted feel. A 235/55 or 245/50/17 would be options. Unfortunately most summer tires will be well worn after 20k miles (the Michelin Pilot Super Sports wear well for a summer tire but are expensive). You might look into them though since you have 17s, they may be at a price you're willing to pay, those Pole Positions mentioned above are a good choice too. Not easy to find a wide choice of tires in the 17" size though.
good Luck.

Ah, yes, you didn't mention what size wheels you have.

If you do have 17" wheels, Tirerack has a sale on Yokohama S.drive tires. $96/each? That's a hella good price. 300 treadwear. Unfortunately, tirerack is showing "less than 2" available. I'm not sure what that means. One tire?

Avoid Dunlop Maxx and Kumho Ecsta - they are both noisy and tend to wear out quickly.

You may be able to find a good deal at a local brick and mortar shop, and most of them will price-match Tirerack, at least on the tires+shipping (but not on road hazard protection).

And lastly, if you have Big-O-Tires near you, Yelp has a $100 off for $50 deal (you buy a coupon for $50, and it's worth $100 when you get 4 tires). Check with your shop, if you go that way.

Seriously! there are so many options when it comes to tires lol. And yes I do have 17" Base tires. I am looking for a tire with the best tread life. I usually just drive the car in the city or in the freeway for road trips. I actually decided to get the G instead of the Toyota Avalon because of the just the better driving experience. I knew the Avalon would be a better commuter but it felt a bit dull and I wanted a car to keep 10 to 15 years and did not want to get bored with it.

Mr Codeflux. Those are the tires I am wanting to get! I will check out the website when I get a chance. I read somewhere that they have a very good tread life for a good price. I dont think there is a Big-O_tire in my neighborhood but American tires is the shop I went in the past! I will keep that in mind! Thanks again!

Continental ExtremeContact DWS, probably one of the best ultra-high performance all season tires out in the market.
