Alright somebody explain to me the deal with switching to a winter set. Is it just for guys that live in harsh winter areas? Or is it to protect your bada$$ set of aftermarket wheels from the elements etc
I live in new york.right on the beach.like 20 steps from sand.during winter.it snows and Temps stay under 40 alot .the snow and freezing weather plus the snow plows.create giant potholes.which are fixed in spring time.march,april.we'll most of them.I don't take the risk.this is my 3rd slammed car.I've never bent or cracked a rim.but why risk it.plus.when you drop 4 to 5k on rims.you want them to stay perfect.so I just drive a lift jeep cherokee during winter.and park up my m37 for spring.that's just me.the plus is.no rust, less miles every year.and your car holds its value. And so do your wheels for resale...
Those reasons beachbum mentioned and also you can run grippy summer tires which will let you push your G harder in the warmer seasons. Summer tires can be quite dangerous in temps under 40 degrees so it's nice to have a spare set for the cold (and cruddy) months.
