Tire vs Wheel question

I am running stock which means I have 225-50-18s on OEM wheels. I want to buy some sexy aftermarket wheels ad run 245-45x18 tires.
Here's the rub. I just bought the car and it has good OEM size tires on it......so I would like to buy the wheels and mount the OEM tires on them. Then when the OEM Tires wear out, I hope to put the wider tires on the rims.

So....I want the decision to be biased toward the eventual target....245-45x18s on the wheels, but I don't want the wheels to be dangerously wide during the time I run the OEM tires.....

I hope I have been clear.

The question is.......what width wheel will get me by for awhile and work well on the 245s?

The All Season tires that come on the G are pretty horrendous, at least that's been my experience. I'd just get new 245 summer tires now, enjoy your G the way it's meant to be enjoyed and either store your A/S tires until you sell it (or try selling them in the classifieds or local) or use them as a winter set and give you time to buy wheels over the summer. The Toyo T1 Sports are a great summer tire for good prices in that size. That's what I'd do, and have fun in your G

The tires that are currently on it are Dunlop sport maxx A1-A A/S they are looking good because the car only has 16000 mies on it. They seem perfectly acceptable to me. My plan is to eventually replace them with Contis DWS. They were the OEMs on my Mercedes GLK and seemed like a very good tire.

Unlike some, I can't wear summer only tires.

BTW those wheels I had picked out....the STR601Bs.....that you said would work fine....they won't sell them to me. They have their "compatible" cars and the G ain't one of them.

Any of our vendors handle STR? And I would guess I would want 8 or 8.5?

Try EBAY man, there're sets on there for 650ish. If Brad says a wheel will work on your car, you can be fairly comfortable that it will. You're going to want an 18x8.5 et30 in that STR 601.

If you like that wheel I'd go to outcastgarage.com, they're a site vendor and will sell you those wheels but in a ESR, I'd go with 18x9 +30
