Wheel and Tire Recommendations

Hey guys,

Long time creeper, one of my first posts. I have a 08 G37S with GTM twin turbo kit, J-Tran built motor, stage 4 clutch, aftermarket exhaust, and some supporting suspension modifications. I'm at a conservative 8lbs of boost and pushing over 450 RWHP (It was a HOT and HUMID day).

I digress. I am still using stock rims and non-performance tires (no +0 sizing or anything).

I need some new tires for sure as the car easily breaks loose in 3rd gear and I was wondering if I should do +0 sizing, or upgrade rims and go with a wider rim in the back. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for y'alls time.

Sounds like you're definitely ready for some serious rubber and rims.
These forged SSRs would be plenty strong and nice weight
TreadDepot.com: SSR GTF01 Gunmetal Wheels
Also in black
TreadDepot.com: SSR GTF01 Flat Black Wheels
Going w/ a 18x8.5 +32 front w/ 245/45/18 tires
and 18x9.5 +40 w/ 275/40/18s in back would be a perfect fit
These T1Sports will give outstanding grip in dry & wet too
TreadDepot.com: Toyo Proxes T1 Sport Tires
Andrew gives site members good pkg deals so just ask for him and mentione the site if you're interested.

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you think a 10.5 inch rim in the back is a bit too much? I've had my eye on these for quite some time, I just can't find a good deal on em.

Plenty go 10.5s in back, do you have coupe or sedan?
You can run as low as 275 or as high as 305 tread widths on the 10.5s.

You didn't elaborate on your suspension, if you're dropped or planning to drop you can run 19s or 20s but at stock height I'd go no larger than 19s.

The AG line has some wheels that look similar and GetYourWheels has some killer custom finishes, check this epic thread for what they can do. Forgestars are another good option since they offer complete custom offsets for a perfect fit.

To elaborate a bit on the suspension and car in general... I bought this car from a sketchy dealer. Funny enough; the previous owner posted on here for a little while. Even more fun; I inherited all the inherent problems he had with it (Luckily, I used internet kungfu to make the dealer drop the price substantially and I used that cash to fix the oil pan problems and put the rest towards the engine build).

MyG37 - Search Results -- Darkmatter's post history.

This was in his 'sig' at the time of purchase: 08 G37 Sport|GTM Twin Turbo|Fast Intentions CF|Hotchkis|Eibach|SPC|GTSPEC|Greddy|JWT|

Since I became the owner, I had a local shop build the engine, add an oil cooler, beef up the clutch and flywheel, add a few misc things like gauges (digital). As for the suspension drop, I'm not sure how much; however, Darkmatter's profile has some pics of the ride. It still looks exactly the same -- perfect sleeper!

Guys,

Hate to bring this thread back from the dead, but I'm looking for some additional help before working with Jason!

As mentioned above, I'm currently using stock wheels. Planning on upgrading to a staggered setup (AG m590s -- 8.5 front, 10 rear). I have used the search feature and used the offset calculator(s) on various sites (as well as stickied forum posts here). I believe I have a slight drop, not sure how much since the car came that way... Here is what I know thus far regarding changes:

Front:
The edge of the new tyre will be 2mm closer to the inside of the wheel well and suspension components, and 18mm further out from the edge of the bodywork.

Rear:
The edge of the new tyre will be 13mm closer to the inside of the wheel well and suspension components, and 17mm further out from the edge of the bodywork.

Will this setup work? Will it look goofy? Anyone else have a similar setup? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Happy to help but need to know what you were putting in the calculator to get those results
You want an 8.5/10" stagger, just need to know what offsets you plugged in and what tire sizes you plan to run.

FWIW on a slightly dropped G37 coupe on an 8.5/10 stagger I'd run a 8.5 +25 on a 245/35/20 (or a 245/40/19 if you're going 19" rims) and a 10 +35 on 275/30/20 (or 275/35/19) or 10 +40 running 285/30/20 (285/35/19)

Thank you! This is great info! The package I was looking into with Jason was for:
M590s Satin Machined Silver 20x8.5 +35 20x10 +43
245/35/20 275/30/20 Hankook K120 EVO 2

Unfortunately, I don't know the exact drop, but I have included a picture regardless.

Based on the information you provided, it would probably be in my best interest to go with a custom offset. The last decision I need to make is between 19" or 20" wheels... The car is a daily driver, but with that being said I have trouble getting traction... Houston city streets are rather terribly bumpy as well.... Long story short, my goals for the new setup are:
--Ability to not lose traction in 3rd gear
--Safety, reliability, and comfort (in order of importance)
--Ideally will look better than the stock setup

Your input and advice is truly appreciated! Thank you!

After doing a bit more research, I think I've settled on the following:
AG m590 19x8.5 +25 FRONT w/ 245/40/19 Nitto INVO
AG m590 19x9.5 +35 REAR w/ 275/35/19 Nitto INVO

Thoughts?

That's a good plan, those sizes should work well.

With all that power why skimp on the wheel?

Their is a member on here selling some brand new Volk Racing Wheels TE37 Tokyo Time Attack for like 1/2 price. The offsets are perfect for a coupe and you'll appreciate the fact that they are forged and light weight. They are 19's but with that being said you can run some nice meaty tires on them to keep you planted.
