HANKOOK VENTUS S1 vs YOKO YK580

Hello all,

I am trying to decide between these two tires as a replacement to my worn out Dunlop OEM tires. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I don't carry that model Yoko so not familiar with it. The Hankook, however, has done really well thus far. Fairly new but already proving itself in the ranks.

i really loved the hankook v4 es to bad they discontinued its successor is the s1 noble 2 haven't tried them out yet. The evo 12 looks a bit rough if you want comfortability and low road noise.

I have the Ventus S1's on my G37 xs coupe got them to replace the factory yokos. I also upped the tire size to 245/45 on the 19 inch sport wheels. So far after 4 months of hard driving I like them. The yoko's did have a stiffer side wall and more feed back in Cornering, but the ride got a lot better and they still handle nicely.

I ended up buying a set of the KY580s. They are very quiet and seem to grip the road. At higher speeds while cornering, it feels unstable. It almost feels like the get squirmy... hard to explain. If I dont hold a steady line with the steering wheel it makes my car almost feel as if I am going to loose control. Has anyone else had this issue with the 580s? Does anyone know if the Hankook tire would feel better at high speed cornering?

Hey Jader, glad you provided feedback on the Yoko's. You sound just like me, in that I narrowed down my choices to the Yoko YK580s and the Hankook Ventas S1 noble as replacements. I too have the OEM Dunlop's on my 2009 G37 Journey. 33K miles on them, but getting close to the wear marks. How many miles did you get on your Dunlop's? Why did you not consider them as replacements, or if you did, why did you not chose them?

From general tire reviews, I am leaning toward the Hankook's. I sure don't want a squishy feel in the corners, but I do want to keep a compliant/quiet ride with grip. Probably would get more miles out of the Yoko's, but concerned they may get noisy as miles driven rise. Not sure how the Hankook's will hold up over time, especially the quietness factor.

Not ruling out Michelins.

I think I had around 33k miles on the Dunlops before I replaced them. I didn't consider them as replacements because I felt like I was driving on hockey pucks during the winter time.

The Yoko's I can say without a doubt very quiet. They handle the bumps very well and seem to have great traction overall. Its just in the high speed corning I feel like something isn't holding up as well. For an example, I took and cloverleaf on ramp at about 50-55mph. My car hood appeared to be going a different direction then the car was moving. I don't know how else to explain it. Maybe I am just being over critical of the tire. I was originally dead set on the Hankook tires until the Discount salesman convinced me that the YK580 was a better tire. I am not sure if they get a better kick back for selling those tires or not. I am going to give it a few more weeks to make a decision... thankfully Discount Tire allows returns up to 30 days.

I have thought about the Michelins, but I didn't want to spend that much on a tire. Might reconsider if I end up deciding to exchange the YK580s.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've used Discount Tire for replacement tires for as far back as I can remember. I've always had good luck with them. They will negotiate somewhat on their pricing, so try that if you replace the Yoko's.

I mentioned in another thread yesterday that the Hankook Ventas S1 noble1 tire was rated number 1 in AS Ultra High Performance on Tire Rack's website under Tire Survey Results. The YK580s weren't mentioned, but I believe that's a result of it being a Discount Tire exclusive. Beat out some other good tires.

A couple years ago I was looking at the Hankook V4 ES tire (previous model, I believe, to the S1 noble2) as a replacement tire for another car. The reviews were all over the map. Some folks loved them, others hated them. So I shied away, and went with Michelins. So far, the reviews on the S1 noble2 that I've come across are all positive, but being a newer tire, there are fewer reviews.

Good luck with your YK580s.
