G37s Tire Wear

G37s Tire Wear
Prospective owners still doing research. OK, this is my second post/question. The search for our dream car is continuing. I have heard that the G37s's eat up tires, but I have also read in one post that the G35S had the problem, and was corrected with the G37S.
I have done several searches on the forum, but have not turned up much information. Can some owners give me some feedback?

Are you asking about the G37S with 18" staggered size summer compound tires, or the G37 with 17" all seasons?
The S with factory spec Bridgestone Potenza RE050A summer tires is going to eat tires. I got less than 12,000 miles out of mine. I totally expect to replace my tires every year. It's the price you pay for cornering grip.
I suspect the non S cars with 17" all season tires will not be so hard on tires.
And, of course, you could run all season or higher mileage tires on a S, but you'll give up traction, which kinda defeats the purpose of the S.

The S is a high horsepower RWD car with staggered high performance tires. I don't think it is any worse than other cars that fit the same description.
It's really going to depend on how hard you corner and how much you are scuffing the rear tires.

I'm getting decent wear on my OEM potenzas. I swap them out in the winter, but I'd say they have 18+k miles on them with 6/32 remaining. Probably good for 25k miles easy. I can live with that for a summer compound.
Some guys beat on their S models, as with many other sport RWD vehicles. You have to pay to play. Other guys drive normal, with spirited drives on occasion, and get much better wear. So many variables in the mix.

I replaced them with Michelin AS3's and the vehicle handles much better in heavy rain, snow, and ice.
They did fail to get me into my un plowed upgrade driveway with about 8 inches of snow but they did get me home with no problem.

I have not heard of the G37 'eating' tires. I think the OP may be confused by the fact that the OEM tires on the G37S are summer compound tires with a low tread wear rating (140). I got about 17k out of my RE050s - then switched to Pilot Super Sports. Theoretically - I should get about 2x the mileage out of them as they have a tread wear rating of 300. Realistically - I'd be real happy to get 30k out of them.

I got about 20K miles out of the stock 50A's. I have over 30k miles on my replacement 760's and they still look pretty good. In the winter I used my Blizzaks so my summer tires are only on for 3 seasons. YMMV since it depends on your driving style.

And people ask me why I don't live in the midwest anymore! Seriously, this is just so wrong.
Aside from the lack of snow; Ive got about 25K miles on my RE760's with no unusual signs of wear. I'm expecting 35-40K without much drama. Of the cars I've owned, the G37S has been the most forgiving on tires of the lot

The OEM Bridgestones RE050A on the RWD Sport only last between 10 and 15K miles, with normal driving. Unless most of your driving is highway. The tires suck. But since you can't buy a 2014 G37S anymore, that's not a problem... any used G you buy will very likely no longer have those tires on it.
That's what you've been reading. Otherwise, the G is just like any other car for tire wear. Tires are tires.

I agree with Greg and also remember since the tires are staggered, you will be replacing the rear tires twice as often as the fronts. When the rear's are at 5/32nd's, the fronts will still be at 9/32nds. The 5/32 replacement is important because rear wheel drive cars lose alot of handling capability at that time.

I replaced my OEM Bridgestone tires at 32.3k miles. They still had 5/32 left but I was not happy the way the vehicle was handling in heavy rain and snow.

I would rather replace tires at 5/32 as changing tires twice a year is a PITA.
The OEM tires were fine in cold dry weather.
Thus far I am very happy with the Michelin AS3's

Telcoman, I live in the Northeast as well and have been extremely happy with the Michelins not only in the snow, but all year long. They are a great all season tire that perform very well in the dry weather.

Rochester, did you go with the PSS in stock sizes or a different tire?
My rears are at about 40% remaining, ~12.5K on the odo. I expect them to last the remainder of this season. Next spring I'll either get the pss or s04's. Probably pay the premium for the michelin's as i ran their pilot road series for well over 12 sets on the bikes with excellent results.
Telcoman, I ran summer only tires on my camaro... After just 1/4" of snow on the ground I could not get out of the driveway. Summer tires + snow = accident waiting to happen.......
