Question Best tires for comfort?

It's time for me to get new tires for my '11 RWD Sedan. I'm currently on the OEM Coupe 19" wheels and Swift springs. When I installed the springs originally, the increase in ride-harshness was pretty minimal (on the OEM Sedan 18" wheels) but when I went up to the 19" Coupe wheels, I had to sacrifice more ride quality than I really wanted to.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a tire that can help soak up the bumps a little bit more?

My plan was to go with the +0 sizing of 245/40 and 275/35 that seems so popular, but I do wonder if I couldn't go to a taller profile all the way around as well. Other than the impact to the speedometer, is 245/45 and 275/40 an option?

If you +0 to those tires it is very likely the ride will become eve more harsh. Those tires have a shorter sidewall. I would recommend Conti DWS, well well known tire that is notorious for having a softer sidewall.

On my previous car I had Falken 512 tires and replaced them to Conti DWS and the difference in ride quality was noticeable.

Are you sure about that? I thought the sidewall number was a percentage of the width of the tire?

I'll see if I can find some reviews of the DWS. Thanks for the suggestion.

I had the Conti DWS on my last car, RSX Type S on Tein coilovers, and they really did ride good. That being said, I have Michelin A/S 3's on my G and I love them. My last tires on my G were Pilot Super Sports and if cold temperatures weren't an issue I would still have the SS's.

Ah, I probably should have mentioned: snow and cold isn't much of a concern for me.

Sounds like the DWS may be the way to go. Anyone have any thoughts on the comfort of the PSS versus the DWS?

If you're strictly on tires that are based on comfort/noise than I think grand touring tires are probably the best. Once you get into performance oriented tires you tend to give up some of those for extra performance gains.

^w.h.s.^
The stiffer sidewalls of the UHP summer tires will firm up the ride quite a bit. Unfortunately going w/ the taller profile 245/45 & 275/40 will be over 3% different which is quite a bit.

Yeah, I loaded up the tire calculator and ran the numbers on going a size taller. You're right, it would throw off the speedometer too much. Looks like I will be going with 245/40-19 and 275/35-19.

Now just to decide what type...

If you want a nice sticky summer tire for a fair amount less than the Michelins I'd look at these, very good UHP Summer tire. Ask fopr Andrew and mention myG37.com for the best deals, they have free shipping on all Toyos this month

The cost difference between all of these tires in this size is pretty reasonable... If I had to rank what I'm looking for in order of priority it'd be:

1. Ride Comfort
2. Performance
3. Noise
4. Treadwear
5. Price

I'll search the forums for some reviews of the Toyos and the S-04s. Thanks!

Criteria 1 and 2 contradict each other. Tires that have better ride comfort will generally have softer sidewalls and tires that are performance oriented will have stiffer sidewalls. DWS is an ultra high performance all season tire so it is excellent in the rain, if that matters. The tread pattern keeps noise low and has a 50k mile warranty.

Hahaha, oh believe me, I know I'm asking to have my cake and eat it too. I'm just hoping to get some feedback from other members on tires they've tried in the past that might be a good compromise between the two.
