Spare tire throws AWD light

as i was parking the car today, i got out and heard a loud hissing sound from my front left tire. i knew it was a leak, so i let it deflate and put the spare on. googled the closest flat tire repair shop and it was less than a mile away (thank god). i pulled out and only drove maybe 200-300 feet and my AWD, VDS, & ABS lights came on.

i understand the spare tire is probably not same rolling diameter as the stock oems. so why would infiniti put a spare that could potentially damage the AWD system if you have to travel a long distance to get your flat fixed?! thank god i only had to go about a mile!

would it also be crazy to have a spare OEM wheel to take the place of the sh*tty spare tire?!

A spare tire is just that... a spare. Not designed for daily driving.

Using it for a short distance will not hurt your AWD system, in fact if you drove on it for a week it would probably do nothing. Long term it would probably effect the ecu and you may have an issue with it. BUT saying that, it is a spare and NO spare tire should be used like a regular tire anyways. It wont hurt your car for a day or two, just dont do any crazy driving or lots of hwy driving.

A regular sized OEM wheel would cost and weigh more and take up more trunk space which is already at a premium. And most people, particularly buying luxury brands, don't ever use it but call for a road service tow instead.

For the record I'd love a full sized spare too and wouldn't mind paying a little more for it if there were space in the trunk for it.
