Two tyres of different brand in used G37 vert?

Hi,

I test drove a used G37S vert car. One thing that i noticed that right front wheel and left rear wheel had tires of brand Bridgestone while other two were of Potenza.

What does this mean? I asked dealer if car had been in any accident and he said, none that he know of. In what situations, only two tires need to be changed? Car was also making squeaking noise from roof.

Thanks

This is a sport model, so the front and rear tire sizes/widths are different. Fronts are 225/45R19 and the rears should be 245/40R19 (rims are different widths as well). The tires could have been replaced because of a road debris or slashed. The tires should not be diagonally "rotated", as the sizes are probably mismatched. This all sounds like the owner or service center didn't know what they were doing, and the rest of the car may have been haphazardly maintained. I looked at 5 used G37s, before I found my current car. The other 4 were poorly maintained with various issues.

Thanks zdubin. Car looked good from outside and drove fine too, except squeaking noise and couple of scratches. but I am no expert in cars.

One weird thing that happened was - I asked dealer if they are planning to fix the creaking noise and re offer test drive. Their response was -

"Are you ready to buy assuming the creaking noise has been addressed? We have a lot of cars and want to make sure we are addressing buyers issues before anything else."

I found this attitude really weird. They should ideally fix their problems first and then offer for sale, instead of waiting deal to finalize then fix it.

One more thing I wanted to ask was - Do all dealers allow external mechanic to come and inspect the car? I haven't asked this one yet.

I looked at a car at "Engelwood Infiniti" (NJ) that showed me a car with the headliner dragging on my head. The car had a total of 8 large dings, the check VCS light was on almost constantly on as well as the check engine light. I was amazed that a real Infiniti dealer would have the nerve to show a car like that. I also checked out cars at non-Inifiniti dealers (not recommended) with so much stone damage, that the hood needed a repaint, the door already had real rust on the sides and the seats were yellow and so stained I wouldn't even know they were originally grey. Next I saw one that showed obvious signs of leaks, the headliner was stained in multiple places. Finally, I found the loaded car I would purchase at Ray Catena Infiniti (NJ). The car was well cared for and looked virtually new. The car was also fully loaded (tech, Nav, Prem and Sport), but the roof rattled. I purchased the car "Certified", which extended the warranty 2 more years for a total of almost 4 years. The roof rattles were eventually 90% fixed by Infiniti of Denville. I think the g37 vert needs occasional tweaks to remove the rattles and groans, but that really is the only downside. My recommendation is to go to a highly rated Infiniti dealer and buy a certified car which includes an extended warranty. The certified car is worth an extra few bucks and with this complex roof in the vert, you will sleep better at night.

Ray Catena Infiniti drove the car to my mechanic (1 hour away) no problem. My mechanic raved about what good shape the car was in. A good dealer should have nothing to hide.

Some buyers won't care about the minor issues and are merely buying on price. Others (like most of us here) care about the little issues. Thus a dealer will address issues assuming that we're going to buy. Otherwise the dealer is putting $$$ into a car that they may not have to or won't get back.

When I was looking at the 8-10 G's at my Infiniti dealer, I started to walk over to one and my sales guy told me not to bother b/c it was not in good shape and not up to my standards. He was so right! Scratches all over the driver side, curbed rims, etc. The shame was it was a nice black/black S.
