Wheel Locks

Background: I have a 2011 g37x with stock alloy rims (very good condition). My buddy lost his stock g37 rims yesterday . He lives about 20 minutes away in a rougher neighborhood.

What's a good choice for wheel locks to stop neighborhood kids or rookie criminals? I am just looking to deter would-be criminals and rookie thieves. I completely understand wheel locks won't stop pros that really want the rims.

I called a Nissan dealer (because it was close to me) to see if they had anything that would fit and they said they might for 45$. Are these any good or am I better off spending an extra $50 or so to get something a little bit better?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

The Nissan branded wheel locks sold by many Infiniti dealers are good and probably enough of a deterrent to would-be thieves.

I have what RPM suggested.

Sad to say though, if they want your oem rims, they're gonna get em. Plain and simple.

Are the OEM wheel locks a McGard type product? Ive only had bad luck in regards to McGard type wheel locks. Inevitably one or two of them wont come off.

My dad just bought a Vette and told the dealer to replace the McGard locks with stock lugs....dealer said "why? these things are great, they never have a problem coming off". When he went to pick up the car it was on a lift....dealer tells him "we're having trouble getting the 4th wheel lock off".

Rad is right: if they want them, they are gonna get them regardless of wheel locks. I think the only thing that might help would be the long "splined" wheel locks from Gorilla, but Im not sure they are available for stock wheels.

After doing some research I found the
Gorilla System Gorilla System
.

From what I have seen I should be looking for 12mm x 1.25" Thread Size... Is this correct and will these fit (2011 G37X)?

Anyone have any reviews on the Gorilla System?

Like I mentioned before, not trying to stop a pro thief, but I will be damned if a high school kid steals my OEM rims.

These are the ones Discount Tire Direct sent me when I bought wheels for my i30:

Click me Click me

I like those better: you can see the "notch" around the outside of the lug nut....it goes the full height of the lug nut, giving you that much more surface area to provide torque if/when you need to remove them.

The downfall of most of the McGards Ive seen are that the keyhole is on the surface of the nut, and only goes 1/8" deep or so, giving you not so much surface area to torque against when you need to remove them.

Im not sure what the difference between "The System" and the ones I linked to (aside from the obvious). Dont know about if they are heavier duty metal, etc. For $25 bux Id give them a shot.

I have heard the same things about McGards. I'll probably steer clear of them.

I will look into the ones you sent, for 25$ you can't go wrong.

That's pretty cool! First time I've ever seen those wheel locks.

Do you really need 20 of them? Wouldn't one per wheel be adequate?

I guess it's if you wanted all your lugs to match and added security. Make the punks work for the tires.

1 McGard, with 4 Gorilla's on each wheel.

Never had a torquing problem with the McGards. Always do to 80lb like the car wants.

Do you happen to remember the model number for your Gorilla's? It looks like they have several different options.

or if your OEMs are stolen, your insurance claim would probably cover some great after-market wheels/tires/locks.

wouldn't you need lugs with the washers? Something like this: http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/GOR73621T.htm

I have 1 McGard and 1 gorilla lock on each wheel. I like the gorilla locks bc a thief can't jam a socket on the lug and get em off. The outside spins so the key is needed. But like everyone said, wheel locks r just a deterrent. Serious wheel people will get an alarm with tilt sensor.

I have the gorillas on my G. I have (4) gorilla locks and (16) gorilla splined lugs. The only problem w/ my set is the locks are a bit bigger in overall diameter than the regular lugs, so it's slightly noticeable if you're really looking.

Mine will ONLY work w/ aftermarket wheels, the oem wheels w/ the flat mating surface that require those flat seat lug nuts will need a different set. Mine have the tapered/angled seat.
