just be sure to adjust your driving habits to account for cold temps. that's the big impact on A/S or summer tires - when it drops below about 7C the rubber compounds harden and you lose traction. with the DWS and AWD on your G you should have no problem accelerating in snow, but stopping and steering is a bigger concern.
Yea, I guess that is the recommendation I will get here. I was hoping that I could find someone who lives in an area where they get snow and have maybe tried one of more of these tires. The other three are much newer tires and a lot of times things advance so I didn't want to just get the DWS because that is what everyone gets if these newer tires are actually better.

I made it through this past winter with the crappy, balding stock tires so I am not worried about my driving skills with newer, better tires. I have driven a 400hp Z28 in the winter before without snow tires or all seasons (but I wouldn't do that again).

I'm having the exact same dilemma as you. As of today my stock dunlop 225 50 18's are at 2/32, so I'm having a tough time justifying the wait for the michelins when they could go any day. This thread has at least helped me narrow it down the the michelins, dws, or the proxes for all seasons. Anything is gonna be better in the snow than the dunlops, I just dont want to get any worse in dry performance than the dunlops. Otherwise i might just suck it up and see if i can find a size that wouldnt give me trouble in the hankook V12 ventus tires even though theyre summers.

Ha, now making the decision even harder is that the A/S 3 has a V rated tire, which is still more than enough for me that is cheaper than the DWS.

I was planning on purchasing a set of 4 Michelin A/S 3s for year-round use given the initial positive feedback/reviews (esp. the dry handling) and the fact that I live outside of D.C. and can't roll with summer tires during the winter as the temps drop way below freezing around here.

My stock tires' size is 225/45/R19 96W and 245/40/R19 98W. The A/S 3s closest to my OEM specs are 225/45/ZR19 96W and 245/40/ZR19 98Y.

Do you guys think the speed rating difference between the fronts and the rears will be an issue? We are only talking about street use with the occasional spirited/aggressive driving on a twisty country road. Nothing close to track-like use or speeds near 150+mph. My understanding is that the 'Y'-rated rears will be stiffer than the 'W'-rated fronts and as a result will provide less grip opening up the potential for oversteer. Again, I am not sure how significant this effect will be if any and whether or not it's a deal breaker.

Anyone tried the Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2? Getting these put on today. Will report back. '09 G37x.

Replacing Kumho Ecsta 4X's. Started out as a decent tire but got very loud past 20k. Surprisingly poor snow handling as well. Would not buy these again.

The Hankook is very new to the market so there's not a lot of feedback just yet. However, the little testing we've done on it so far yielded good results.

I ended up ordering the A/S3's the other day. They had a $70 rebate going so it was too good of a deal to pass up. I got them for $670 delivered and then there is the $70 rebate and I will get $30 cash back from upromise.

So what do you think? I'm considering the Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 as well to replace the stock Bridgestones as soon as I get the new lease.

I have tried both Pirelli P6 Four Season & BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Comp 2 as all season tires. They both perform well, but I heard great reviews for Bridgestone Potenza G019 Grid so you can give them a try if you don't have a budget.

Just ordered myself as set of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's too through TireRack! $665 delivered before $70 rebate which ends tomorrow by the way.

Getting them installed later in the week and will update.

edit: Oops, just noticed you went with the AS3's. I'll leave my post in case someone else wants a quick review on the Hankooks.

Sorry Tony, I haven't checked this thread in a while.

As for the Hankooks, so far so good. Quiet, stable, and pretty good performance as well. Feel like the cornering is a little better than the Kumho Ecsta 4X's they replaced. No issues with wet traction but haven't really driven in a heavy downpour yet. I do about 80% highway driving and so far they have been a great highway tire.

Michelin AS3

Guys,

What is the distinctive mark on AS3 tires that indicate the H or V speed rating?

Thanks,
Ron
