Hey Guys,

I just got a 2012 G37 sedan (premium only package) and was thinking of swapping out the OEM 17" wheels with 19" inch wheels. I'm a total non-car guy so explain it to me like I'm 5. What do I need to look for to do this? Are there any good deals for the 19" OEM somewhere?

Edit: tekksan, may I also suggest you provide reasons for upgrading and preference so other can help steer you in the right the direction. Are you trying to archive a certain look, is performance a factor (size and/or weight of wheel will yell difference performance, probably nothing to consider for average driver), you planning to lower the car and comfort. Thats why I posted the link above. Maybe that will trigger other questions that you might be aware of.

You can check the classifieds section for oem 19"s, and if I remember correctly there are some decent prices going for them. There are a couple things you need to know and they are 1. Chech for the quality of the rims(curb rashes, peeling paint, cracks and bends) 2. They come with tires or no tires. If it were up to me I would by them without tires so I can put my own choice of tires that I want. 3. If the rims come with tires, then look if they come with TPMS and lug nuts.

 

You may like the look of 19" wheels, but you will be giving up ride comfort for looks. You will feel every bump in the road. Is this what you want?

Keep in mind the larger the wheels the rougher the ride since you'll typically have more weight and lower profile sidewalls. Most that go w/ bigger wheels also lower their suspension since the tire-fender gap looks more obvious w/ that combo.
If you want to lower your G the costs can add up in a hurry. For a small spring drop it starts around $250, a bigger spring drop requiring additional camber/toe kits adds another $525, and going to coilovers for adjustable drop & comfort would add at least another $350, and you'll need an alignment $100-$125 and none of this includes the installation labor. If you've done some wrenching it's not too hard to do all but the alignment yourself, otherwise expect $300-500 for labor.

Thanks for all the info guys. My main motivation for switching to 19" wheels was for the looks. I didn't know the ride is rougher with 19" so I may just decide to keep my 17"s.

 

Maybe sport sedan 18's would be a good comprimise...
