g37x in the snow (Kuhmo ecsta 4x)
#31
New member here, wanted to threw in my 2 cents about snow and tires.
I have a 2007 WRX and just got a G37x sedan.
On my WRX, i was driving in WI, which snowed alot. I had the 205/55R16 Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D from TireRack and they were MAGNIFICIENT. The thing is, acceleration was not a problem, traction was superb, and noise and comfort were better than stock OEMs. I drove through blizzards in these and I was flying on the hwy @ 60mph while everyone was going 35. Dangerous yes, crazy yes, but fun, OH YES.
Even with winter tires, don't be fooled about cornering and braking. You are still at risk, traction is improved but still not optimal. Just have to brake early in straights, and try to initiate oversteer on corners because otherwise you'll be like the many drivers that I've seen, understeer and hit the curb. I just initiate a mild scandanavian flick and off we go.
I also put on my current 215/45ZR -17 CONTINENTAL EXTREMECONTACT DWS XL in the snow in Maryland now. We had a snow storm here one night, they only plowed one of the 4 lanes on I-95. Of course, I was driving in the non-plowed lane @ 60mph while all the Marylanders were going 20mph in the plowed lane. It was great fun.... until a big pile of snow impacts your front bumper... then you realize to slow the f down =p
Since these Ecsta 4x are sort of new, I'd stay off of them until I need another set and more reviews come out. I am currently sporting the Continentals, on my 2nd set now and have no regrets.

They are very comfortable, quiet smooth ride -- I can't complain, don't feel any harshness at all.
