Just got my CV1s. Rant.

I posted this a couple days ago in the Vossen wheel thread but it hasn't received any hits so don't flame me for double posting.

Here's my dilemma:
After driving around on them I realized that at highway speeds, there was a bunch of vibrating. So I took the wheels back to the shop that I originally got them from to get them rebalanced. After they were done, they told me that "it looked like someone attempted to steal my wheels." They were showing me that the area around the lug nuts, there was some damage. They obviously used an impact wrench and took off some of the matte black paint but I had no proof that it was them that caused the damage.

So my question is: what have you guys done regarding the stripped paint or any other damages caused by road rash? Do you take it to a wheel shop to have them refinish them? They actually recommended that I use a sharpie to touch up the area

Another question I have is: is the placement of the weights correct? I looks weird all out in the open. Shouldn't they be towards the back of the wheel?

<a href="http://s1099.photobucket.com/albums/g395/mikeli689/?action=view&amp;current=1312164055121.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g395/mikeli689/1312164055121.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

and yes I know the wheels are filthy lol. I washed my car and it looks like all the rusty water from the brakes dripped onto the wheels

Wheel weights can be inboard or outboard on the wheel. It all depends on how the balance machine measures the imbalance.

most places give you the option as to where you would like the weights, if you want them to be visible or not.

You can have them balanced two ways: static and dynamic. Of course dynamic gives the best results, but the guy doing the balancing has to put the weights exactly where the machine tells him to put them...which means both on the inside lip and outside lip if that's what it takes to balance the tire properly.

So it's perfectly normal to have the weights that far inside (or outside?) the wheel? I guess it just looks so unsightly because the wheels are black and the weights are silver. And there's so many of them! I'd never seen them out there like that on any wheels posted here before either...

My SSR's are black and Autoglitz used black wheel weights so they blend in with the wheel.

Are you using the hub rings? Should have came with the rims, if not that's why you're getting vibration.

No idea, what the hell I'm looking at in the 1st pic, I don't see any dmg...

Yeah I'm using hub rings. The damage is at the lugnut holes. You'll see where they're stripped from the impact gun.

OP, you will need a special socket to get your lugs out without damaging the wheels since the diameter is so narrow. Don't sweat it
About the weights most places use silver ones, I'm sure when you're doing 25 MPH nobody can see your weights lol almost everyone has silver weights. If it bothers you so much use plastidip

I don't think anyone tried to steal them. Looks like when they were mounted, they used some garbage thick sockets and scraped agains the holes.
Trying to blame it on someone else

Good call on the plastidip Boosa! I think I might actually do that. I know no one can see ithe weights when I'm driving but they won't look as sexy when they're stationary haha. And what type of special socket are you referring to?
