2008 G37s wheel discoloration

I have the stock 19' rims and the front driver side wheel has these black spots that really look bad. They look like brake dust but I can't get them off. I don't know why they are there...all I have done is taken my car to a regular car wash and drive it.

Has anyone had this problem before? If so, do you know what to do to prevent it from happening and how to fix it? My dealer recommends a special company that they use that will have to refinish it.

Could be tar from the road, or paint. Get some adhesive remover at an autozone and some wheel cleaner and give it a nice wash with a brush. If it's an actual scratch, then yea, re-finish it.

Can you feel the spots? Does it stick out like a bump? If so it's probably tar/road debris.

no you cant feel anything. I attached a pic of what it looks like. regular water with a cloth doesn't take it off.

Looks like the base coat.
These wheels have a grey primer with a black base coat. then shot with a silver.
It's the black base coat that gives them the hypersilver look.

You must wash pretty aggressively. That, or your car wash uses an acid solution to clean wheels, thats how they get brake dust off so well.

I messed up my brothers S5 rims by using autoglyms rim cleaner... It had a corossive symbol on it Si I thought it would do a great job I let it sit for two min and messed them up bad similar to what happened with yours time for some powdercoats

did you buy your car used? I had a similar situation and it ended up that the wheel had been refinished improperly. The problem was subtle at first, but got worse over time. The dealer fixed it for free

thats the basecoat. you used to harsh of a soap- and you got this.

those rims need to be repainted. by the spots, you can tell that to strong of a solvent was used.

people need to be very careful- they used a very-very soft paint on the OEM rims.

I just a sued a carwash company in socal about the same matter? And they settled out of court! They replaced all four wheels with brand new ones, and they took my old wheels to conduct test on them!!

I have the same thing and my car is still under warranty and the dealer wont do anything about it as infinity knows about it. They said a guy comes by and can fix it for 150 a wheel but I think that is bull****. You spend so much on this car and the rims can't even be manufactured right.

Mine did something similar when the detainers at the dealership used too harsh of a cleaner. Theis can also happen with certain tire dressings. Don't put anything on your wheels that you wouldn't put in the paint if your car.
