Overspray on Wheels... WTF?

Just got my 2008 G37S Black/Graphite yesterday, had 7K on it!!!
Has Nav/Spoiler... Badass all around, Loving the car.

Beautiful day here in NJ, so I'm detailing the car, and I notice
sections of black on the wheel... I figured it was just break dust and
although it did look dark, I knew my detailing skills would overcome.

I was shocked and appalled that this $40K+ car has areas of black overspray!
YES, sections of the wheel, when inspected up close, have black overspray.

I noticed it on 2 wheels really bad but all 4 actually had a little bit, with 1 only
having it on 1 of the 10 spokes close to the edge... Went to the dealer and
they said they will definitely fix... I said fix??? Do you mean new wheel, cuz it
is under the finish. Have no idea what they're going to do, but the dude said
they'd fix it... In my search for this car I remember seeing a couple of them
with really black sections on the wheel... ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE???

are you sure it is overspray? wheels are put on last at the factory, way after painting... unless your car was repainted

that is def. not from the factory, no way they would even deliver a car like that. looks like it was repainted by a shop that didnt prep at all.

just cause dealer carfax doesnt say repaint doesnt mean anything. carfax shows what was report through insurance. if they repainted the bumper and fender, chances are the owner paid out of his own pocket.

Sorry sounds like you got involved with a less than reputable dealer. Chances are if the wife dinged the car a dealer would have the resources to get it fixed under the table, check w/ carfax because they may have a guarantee against this sort of thing? Or you could possibly take action against the dealer? Best of luck.

You got lied to.

The wheels are not on the car when it is painted, impossible to get overspray. You car was involved in an accident at some point.

Buddiee is totally right. There is no way it was oversprayed, and the dealer either shafted you or got shafted by someone else.

LMAO you believe that? When the cars are painted at the factory they are just shells; no interior, no trim, nothing.

Sounds like you not only used a shady dealer but also a dealer who uses a crappy bodyshop. Any half decent place would have masked the wheels properly.

They're probably willing to fix it becuase you basically caught them lying to you about the car having "factory paint".

My G35 coupe had body work done more than 10 times and the carfax was clean, all carfax can really tell you is if the car was totaled. If you don't know how to spot orange peel, or fish eyes in the paint just stop by a good local body shop and they will let you know in 10 seconds if the car was re-painted. If you want to you could also ask the dealer to check the car with a paint depth gauge and then you will know for sure, if they say they don't have one they are full of crap.

i dont know what actions you can take, other then getting that rim replaced/fixed. dont think returning the car is an option.

a repaint is not a big deal as long as it is done right. but looking at your wheels, it looks like the body shop took short cuts.

If the car was sold as new (like a demo) then you may have some recourse.
